Hello everyone. New to the forum.
Wanted to get some opinions on the one rod by Sage. Thinking about getting a 9' 9 weight for coastal fishing and for an upcoming trip to Alaska. Anyone have experience with this rod? From what I have read it is the smoothest rod on the market but of course that could all be hype. Wanted to get some real experiences from people who might own one.
Thanks.
Great forum by the way.

I played with one in 8wt a little while back, and it almost casts itself. Compared to my Xi3, its incredibly more sensitive to cast imputs, but is still very forgiving where as the Xi3 has to kiind of be told what to do some times. Truthfully i think it will be my next rod build.

I live on the coast so it will see plenty of both salt and fresh use. Eyeballin their 4200 series reels to go with it. I think this combo will do well in Alaska for salmon and big rainbows and be a good rig for reds and jacks here at home as well. I will post a small review when I recieve it.

I have one of those too on my xi3. It has almost 450 yards of gelspun backing on it under a 9 wt line. that is packed to the gills...infact i hooked into something a few months that took about half of that off, and then broke off on a piling. i thought i was never going to get all that line back

Truthfully i think it will be my next rod build. I think the Xi3 is much easier to cast. While the One is a good rod, outside 60' it just doesn't carry line that well. I suppose it depends on your fishing style, I am a jetty fishermen so I have to make 100'+ cast to get to the fish a lot. Get yourself to a fly shop and cast it, see what you think.

There's a lot to be said for the Sage Xi series. I've not casted the One, but am a big Sage fan. The Xi2 9 wt was my go-to rod in Alaska last year and my 6wt Xi2 the rod I chose for sea-run dollies. As it turned out, my largest fish of the trip, a 12 lb chum, was landed on the 6 wt.
I also have a custom Xi3 5wt that's saltwater-rigged and was the rod I used to land a bunch of exotics, including a 5 lb peacock bass, in Miami two weeks ago.
So I would test the Xi3 along with the One.
