One word.........Solitude..............
I bought a kayak so I could venture out where I would not see anyone for hours, getting back into areas that boats don't fish. I like to load my kayak and hit a remote river, It really re energizes me, after a day or week on the water.

Because dynamite is illegal. Seriously all the reasons above plus I fish small ponds and lakes. I looked first at a Bassbuster but found kayaks and the ability to go anywhere. Open ocean, lake, river, and ponds. It was lighter and more versatile. Best thing is some cost less than one monthly bass boat payment.

Great responses everyone. I like hearing other kayak anglers share why they kayak. It renews the my passion for the sport.

Chicks dig it, enough said!
I would agree with all the other reasons as well, I did not see mentioned that the fellowship and sharing with other kayak anglers seems to be greater than the run n gun closed lip power boaters.

I do agree with this, although i did not know it going into it. Since then I may not go to many outings or get togethers, but i still feel like everyone is one big family and willing to share almost anything. Hard to get folks to share fishing tips sometimes, but that is everyehwre

I agree with all comments, and would say the people are amazing to say the least,
Kayak fishing will make you a better angler if you let it,

I like the ability to fish small water. It's fun to look at an aerial map and see a creek or a pond and decide to take your kayak out there the next day. A place that no motor boat could get to. I also like the customization and rigging of your kayak to make fit you style of fishing.

I like (and I DON'T like sometimes) that when you do catch a really good fish while you are sitting in that cramped space, no place to run, no place to maneuver, you have to figure out what you are going to do with that 4lb fish that you know for sure is going to break your 8lb line as soon as you try to drag her into your small cramped space - without a net! It becomes a lot more personal between you and the fish at that point

I can't/ couldn't afford a bass boat. I do want one. But... Too much. JTMAX said it becomes personal btwn u and the fish. The closeness and I don't use a net. Also, it is cool how it can pull u around. TexasSteve remembers my 2 360s trying to land the big one near paddle point park. Jimbo mentions freedom and simplicity. U also have to use your angler skills since you can't run and gun. U have to really use your smarts to catch fish since u can't run and gun. Craftsman says, Closer to nature, environmental concerns, peaceful, yak can go where BPs can't. DragginYak says multiple launchibility. Fishin machine says u can " neek" up on the fish. Bert mentions the fellowship. Truethat. TexasSteve mentioned solitude. I love it. I may get tired sometimes but love the solitude and being able to think and reflect with no one around. Same when I go out with one or more friends. They are still fishing close by but still can be far enough away to maintain solitude. Texlax said small water and the rigging. I like that as well. Ponds, streams, rivers, creeks, marinas, and other small areas. It takes me about 25 minutes to load up everything(I usually do that the night before) and taking it down takes about 15 minutes. Kayak carrier to walk to ramp and I use the carrier in the front to corral the rods toward the front tip of the kayak. Pelican, along the same lines as your frog, I love fishing a top water, maybe a pop r or a Zara spook, thinking that it is so close to the kayak that a bass couldn't possibly hit it, and then, 3 or 4 feet away, POW, Splash, the fight is on right in your face, and your heart rate shoots up and u have to figure out how to land it so close to the yak. Awesome. I do have some negatives but they are far outweighed by the positives.
If you know of an old Dagger Bayou 2 tandem kayak I am interested.

mkdm, you are right, there are some negatives, boat positioning especially, but I love it. I think that is part of the pursuit. Figuring out how to rig you kayak before you leave in order to maintain the best post position to catch and land the fish.
I also think kayak fishing might be one of the oldest ways to fish. I am going to research it, but I think flattened and dugout logs where probably the first fishing vessels.
