I'll be at the convention center (George Brown) for a few days in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, I will not have a car. Any suggestions on places close to fish for a few hours in between my work? Within taxi or bus distance? Thank you.

I work downtown, and I haven't found anything that close yet. A few people on here have posted about fishing the bayous, but I am not that much of a man. smile

The George R Brown is right off 59 and I really haven't found anything on the east side of downtown yet.

Sorry to say I am not aware of any decent spots near downtown. Braes Bayou mentioned above is more of a concrete-lined ditch (large one at that) - Flow can be a trickle much of the time, or 20 feet deep after heavy rain. I imagine there are fish in there, at least carp, but have never really heard of read of anyone catching any. Buffalo Bayou, which runs through just North of downtown is probably a better bet for holding fish, but I dont know about access, and not sure about those areas on the East side of downtown.

Wish I could be of more help.

Ive seen carp and buffalo, but thats about it.
Ive also been seeing some fish that leap out of the water and fall on their sides (not sure what those are). Its also very close to the ship channel where it mixes in with saltwater.

But unfortunately, this side of town is where I grew up and its not exactly pretty (which is why I moved to Katy).

The nearest water is buffalo Bayou which runs through the north side of downtown and becomes the Houston Ship Channel.
There are plenty of catfish as well as carp and buffalo. Just west of downtown you may be able to hook up with some bass and sunnies, but there aren't many of them. The farther west you go along the bayou the better you chances, but they won't be very good until you're well past Shepherd Ave.

Thank you all for the replies. I'll figure something out based upon your information.
