Amistad is better now than it has been all year.
The last two days were incredible Monday we had 172 by 2:00 with the best five weighing 32lbs. Today we had 153 by 2:30 with the best five weighing 31lbs. That is 325 bass in 14 hours of fishing that is 24 bass an hour and .40 bass
every min. We were busy!!! We started out early with top water on shallow main lake flats from a foot to ten feet using a vixen. Lots of good fish in packs, caught two at a time on the same bait more than once. Then we slayed them on a dd-22 out a bit deeper 17-20 feet over the same flats. When we got enough of that we moved out a bit deeper 20-23 feet on the same flats and wiped them out on a drop shot I don't know how many doubles we had and some trips as well.
If you don't want to book a trip you still need to get out here and jerk some around.
I changed my email my to reelnray@hotmail.com
Thanks,
Ray Hanselman

Don't worry Chad these country boys can't drive that far to fish, we got biggun in our back yards!

Ray I know you've fished Amistad for years so I would Like to hear your opinion on How Large of Bass are in Amistad. Do you think or have any evidence of 18lb class fish? I would like to believe that a lake as Deep as Amistad and with as much premium deep cover that their are bound to be some high teen fish swimming around! Give us your take if you don't mind? God Bless Good Luck & Great Fishing:-)

Your right I have fished this lake for over thirty years at 200 plus days a year. I have seen some real giants on beds 15 plus pound fish over the years. Most of those fish were close to the main lake and spawning 20 to 25 feet. So to answer your question there are some state record bass in this lake!!! People just don't fish where they live and when they are catchable people are sight fishing on the bank.
Thanks, Ray Hanselman

Had a great trip there this weekend, caught fish all day long on big top waters up to 6 1/2 lbs. The more sunny and hot it got the bigger the fish got. Cant wait to get back

It didnt matter much, we went up the river past #22 and fished both sides. We caught around 30 keepers a day and probably 60-70 total a day. Just throw it up on the bank and work it back to the boat, sometimes there would be 2 or 3 the same size with the ones we caught. We tried to stay in 10' or deeper water with the bigger ones in 20 +

You know, sometimes I envy Ray for living so close to that lake. I will admit that very few people know Amistad like him.

22 is a haul from the ramp. Did you guys put in at Diablo or the pecos?

They probably took off from box canyon. You know chad you really dont need to go too far to catch 50+ fish. Every time i go i catch them in different areas the only thing i concentate is where there is heavy brush or huisache start of shallow in the morning and use that same spot as it gets hotter but only deeper.Consider using topwater early and move to a T-rig as the day gets hotter. You might want to try areas close parallel to castle canyon. I did good this past weekend lots of fives heaviest was at 8.15 that my brother in law pulled out.

We put in at Black Brush, it was a haul in the dark but well worth it. Esteban is right there are fish all over that thing, but up river was the only place we could get top water fish all day. Either way its fun
