I've been catching some really nice bream at Fairfield over the last week. I was wondering what other lakes had those giant bream in them and were are they biting. I still have about 200 crickets to use up this weekend. Any suggestions?

If you have the chance, go to Meridian State Park, and fish off the boat dock. I have never been there and not caught the biggest perch i have ver seen. Also at purtis Creek State Park, the have the state record in the office and it is unbelieveable. But, I took my kids there and I got up at 7 am to find my 14 yr old was on that dock and had a stringer full of big perch. She tried to clean them and take them home to her Paw Paw but the racoons walked up to the fish table, and hijacked all the cleaned ones and left the others for her. It's really good when your kids like to fish.
If you don't really want to know, then don't ask me, because I will tell you ! Just Remember : Cain't never could, and gimme' died in the Whorehouse.

Purtis Creek is a good one...I just got back a week ago from Toledo Bend and flat tore up the big bull bream males for 2 days with mealworms. I was fishing a sandy area with scattered gravel and they were in 6-9' and also quite a few suspended in 10-12' over 22'. The biggest one was right at a pound and just about all were at least as long as my hand and their tails were passed the second wrist mark! I was fishing between Alpine Marina and Lowe's Creek...any of those sandy points or coves you'll find them or try off the old log jam toward Pendleton Bridge.

From Fairfield the closest I have ever heard of is Palestine. I have my parents stop and get them when we meet up there. Fairfield has the best Bream I have ever experienced. I use worms if I can't get crickets. This year we had a pink kiddy pool for the kids and with no water it attracted small to medium grasshoppers. We used them and they worked good. I would imagine the grasshopper crop will be strong this year with this lack of rain.

I have never been there, but Lake Athens is the only lake on the Dallas Morning News fishing report that lists the bream conditions so I suppose it has to be good

If you want crickets, you can get them at any pet supplies store.

thanks deepend didnt think about any thing else eating crickets other than fish. Also for 37 years had to listen to my dad tell stories of these huge perch, well he called them Black bream, that he had caught on vacation when he was young . I can't say if its true but it made for some great stories. I my self have never been to Lake of the pines. I guess i should go if only to put a picture with the stories. He said they caught them on catalba worms and also said they caught so many they got tired of cleaning them and had to give the rest to friends. I guess catch and release was not so popular back then. I hope they are still there.

Caddo Lake is awesome if you can bear the heat - not a breath of air in the swamp fully leafed out.

Old gravel pits and ponds, you can use worms or Crappie Bites or other prepared baits. I catch the biggest and most on Crappie Jigs. Tried Gulp Stelth Shad baits last week and caught lots of big Warmouth, Redear and Shellcrackers. They fight really rough, fun to catch.

Back in the day, Winnsboro had some awesome bream fishing. Even held the state record for a time. We caught them on 1/64 oz black jigs with a small spinner (looked like a teeny tiny spinnerbait). Lake Palestine has a good bream population too. My buddy wears them out throughout the summer on crickets.

I don't ever go to the pet stores for crickets. They are way to expensive. Internet has several places where you can get them for approx 1.5 cents ea. There is a place in Arkansas which will get them to you in 3days, alive and well. I will post the name when I get home.
