Hi Banker, I don't think its a flathead catfish. There is a extra dorsal fin, no barbels, the tail fin is concave and it was a couple of years ago but I remember it having scales.

Not a sauger they can't grow in that environment. I don't know what it is, I lived in the rgv for a bunch of years and never saw anything like it. My guess would be it was introduced by someone's aquarium

mjmfc, that's disappointing to hear. I thought I finally had an answer. I remember thinking I had a big bass on the line from the way it attacked the bait. I was also wondering if it wasn't to far south for that type of fish.

Saugeye is a sauger x walleye mix. TPWD stocked them in several lakes across the state. Some were successful, some not. They still stock in lake Kirby amongst others.
Live Oak City park was stocked from 1993 until 2002.

I don't know what it is but i don't think its a saugeye. It is too heavily bodied and the and the head is wrong.

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty sure that is a Sculpin.
