Since Shimano gives the $30 rebate.. and I need a new reel.. Do you guys think it's worth it to just go ahead and get the Curado over the Citica?
I also need a new rod for it as well, and I'd like this to be a 7 or 7'6 foot for flipping and pitching.
I'm looking to spend around $180ish..
Advice?

Its a shame. I'm a big fan of shimano. But the new curados and citicas aren't the same quality as the e series. I have a new white chronarch, its comprable to the 200e curados, sorry to rain on your parade!

There appears to be a lot of controversy about the E series switching over to the G series.

If you are looking for an awesome flipping stick, I can get you a brand new Dobyns Savvy 766Flip shipped for $150. That comes in under your budget and it is an awesome rod...performs like it should be a $200 rod easily. PM me if you are interested.

Only thing the E series has over the G is 2 bearing knobs. I doubt you would be disappointed with it!

I have 4 Curado's and I agree the newer ones are not as smooth as the old Curado's.

I just tried out the G-series Citicas at Academy on Sunday and thought they didn't seem quite as nice/smooth as the E-series Citicas I've got. Maybe I already had it in my head that they weren't as nice, but they certainly weren't any better. Until someone thinks that the G-series is actually better than the E-series, I just can't see a reason to pony up the extra cash. Go on ebay and buy the E series for half price.

Patriot looks like we have the same author preference.

And I've never really had much luck on ebay, but then again I haven't looked that hard. Do you guys just stalk down some items you want? Haha

A good cheap real that I recently stumbled across is the Diawa Laguna. My girlfriend had been wanting an upgrad from the walmart special I bought her last year I got her the Laguna and all star for V-day. Turned out to be an awesome deal. I love the thing! When she isnt fishing with me I use the set up in my arsenal during tournaments lol. Not as smooth as a Revo or an old Curado but for only $60 bucks you cant go wrong.
