You read my mind man. I'm thinking of going Sunday afternoon after I get off from Gander Mtn. I have the bug so bad right now I can't stand it.

I was wondering what Caney Creek & the Scott's Ridge ramp was like. I haven't been north of 1097 since August. Of course that is not a bad thing as it has forced me to fish areas other than the north side. Since it's cooler it's helped with few boats on the water too.

Hey BassAm, there are no stumps or fish up north. Stay away from there. Go south.

If you want to go out on the lake on the north end, I recommend launching at Stow-Away Marina. As you likely know, the lake is around 5 feet below normal level and will not be allowed to fill until the spring when the dam has been repaired.
I generally catfish, and that has been great. However, I understand the bass fishing has been very good in shallow water. I have seen some nice bass taken under the Calvary Road overpass close to the Marina. However, a lot of bass fishermen fish around rebar flats.

Divingcat, where is rebar flats??

BassAm, we fished the intake with no success. We did catch a few fish in the trees on the east side flipping tiny brush hogs and wacky worms. we caught all of the real good fish in coves that had grass.

Well I went this afternoon to run my boat & took a rod along. (Boat runs great now by the way...new plugs & fired right up). Caught a 4.3, 19" in about 4 foot of water off of a dock, on the 5th cast. One other dink & one about 1.5 at the light house. Was there about 3 hours. I did not want to leave. Only complaint was that I was by myself.

If you go out of Lochness or Stow-Away Marina, just go straight out on the lake to the west. There are lots of stumps along the western bank. If you want to go toward Cagle, hug the shore line after you pass the spits. When you get into the surmerged timber, you should do well. If not, there are several coves that seem to produce bass( these will be on the west side also). If you want catfish, there are many stumps exposed toward the 1097 bridge. Tie up to one of them, toss a couple handfulls of range cubes or mixed chum, bait up with Premo or chicken liver and you will have some good eating fish. However, use the smallest sinker you can and be aware that these cats do not slam into the bait. When you feel excess weight on your line, set the hook and the fight is on.

BassAm, what did you catch your fish on?? Where are these deeper docks you are talking about. Are there a stretch of them or just 1 here 1 there?? Up Lewis creek area? the only deeper docks that I know about are just south of 7 coves and 4 docks (seriously) on the east side of the dam.......you usually can fish one then pass up 2 or 3 then fish another......

It's the cove that is south of the light house that has the condos right on the water & a fairly large marina. These docks would normally sit in about 6 ft of water or so. Also their are some trees in the middle of the creek on the end of the marina boat docks that we've caught some off as well. I am a shallow water guy & fish for #'s but their have seem to be big fish this year with them. My average fish on Conroe this year has been in the 3 lb range. Ek, we need to go sometime, you can show me some spots & I can exchange mine too.

Yes we do! That cove with the big brown condos is 7 coves. It has the rock bulkhead and the marina is on the other side. That marina is awesome when the wind in howling. I too have caught some pretty good fish on those trees sticking up as well. There used to be a bunch of christmas trees all around those stick ups that the crappie fisherman planted but this was years and years ago. are those docks inside of the marina or those just south of the cove as you approach the marina, or right off the condos??? The docks I am talking about are right around the point from 7 Coves. Look at your map, it's just down from "Doctor's Ditch".
