I know this has been beat to death, but now gas prices are at an all time high it seems. lets say you have a fishing buddy that you sometimes invite fishing with you and sometimes your buddy invites themself by calling you and asking if you want to go, but knowing you will be using your boat. Do you expect that person to pay or at least offer to pay for half the gas? what if they never do? Also say you call up a fishing buddy and say hey, I am on some fish want to fish a team tourny tomorrow and they say yes and pay have the entry fee but then you use 20 gallons of gas in the boat running the lake do you expect them to pay for part of that? If they dont pay or offer do they still get half of the winnings?

Split all expenses 50/50 and all winnings 50/50.

Split all expenses 50/50 and all winnings 50/50. +1. It's the least you can do as a non boater.

I expect my regular fishing partners to split gas.
If I'm inviting a friend/acquaintance/co-worker out every once in a while, it's not as big of a deal if they don't help out - especially if they don't fish much, they might not even think about it.

Keep the tanks topped off before you head to the lake and after you get off the water but before you drop him off top them off again and tell him he owes half. If he doesn't pay then no more fishing trips.

Depends, my usual fishing partner no because we fish out of his as much as we do mine.
Honestly with other people, I take their financial situation into account. I don't have a baller job like some of you guys but I'm very comfortable. If I'm fishing with a guy who I know is tighter on cash, never even crosses my mind. If it is someone who can afford it, they better at least offer. Whether I take it or not just depends on how much running we did that day.

I fish from my partners boat always...unless I'm on a bank somewhere. It should be a given that the non boater give money for gas...unless otherwise discussed. Common courtesy
fatty has more posts than you. I have more beer in my garage right now than you!

I feel the same as yall. I have one partner that has a boat and we just alternate boats which works great, but I have one other person that started fishing with me a couple years ago and I do not think has ever paid for a drop of gas or anything else. We fished a tourny the other day in which I asked them to fish, but it was a team tourny and they paid half but I then used 70 bucks worth of gas in the boat alone and they never offered anything. I am not rich by any means (school teacher in small rural district) I just wanted to make sure I was not expecting too much for a little gas money.

Prize money involved 50/50. Fun fishing and i invite them on me. If they want to go fishing(invite themself) 100% of the gas. Boat payments and gas and maitnance add up quick, dont be scared to get some of your money back.

Its definitely something I take into consideration. Fuel can get expensive. Last year I fished with a guy alot as a non-boater. I always offered my truck to pull the boat and paid for all the gas for the truck and boat. We split the hotel bills and food. This year I have my own boat. I got one guy that's fished with me a couple times and not even offered. I probably wouldn't take it anyway but it would be nice if he asked since we go in my truck and boat. I've got another guy that fishes with me and he's like I was last year. He tries to go above and beyond, I almost have to fight him to buy my own dinner.

This is what my other partner and I do, he gets the entry fees and I get the gas for everything. It works well.

when i got out of the military and moved back here i had been out of fishing for awhile and the only boat i had ever fished in was my dad's. went out a couple of times with a guy i met and had no idea how much it cost him to operate the boat. never offered money cause i didn't know any better, never got invited back either. now i run my own boat and boy do i feel bad every time i think about the guy who kinda reintroduced me to fishing and took me to fork for the first time and the second. i have since anonymously dropped a couple of bills in his mailbox, called and explained that i didn't understand at the time and that i was sorry. friendship repaired as far as i can tell, we talk fishing but still haven't gotten back in the boat together, mine or his.
btw he did in some way ruin my life so i guess it all worked out
