I have always used Penn fishing reels, mainly the 450-750 ssm/ssg series. I wanted to see what other reels compared to the price and quality of a Penn. Any imput is much appericated.

More expensive, but Shimano is tough to beat. I've got a couple of Fin Nor spinning reels that are decent. I've tried a variety of spinning reels over the years, but for the salt environment, Penn is tough to beat. I've got a buddy that is using and very pleased with Diawa saltwater reels. I have no personal experience with them though.

Thanks! What shimano would be equal to a Penn 550 as far as strength.
