I've read through most of these pages of info. Most seem to pertain to the mid/high end models.
I'm looking to purchase a "lower end" model to replace my 727 that is no longer functioning. I'm looking at the 581I Combo unit to replace it since the 581I appears to meet most of the needs and types of fishing/boating that I currently employ.
Question-Would I need to replace the current transducer/mount/wiring with this model. The 727 has a MS2-Y mount. My boat/engine repair guy said the unit doesn't work anymore and I guess that I have to trust him, but have been wanting to upgrade for awhile.
Also, any pros vs. cons concerning the 581 model? Thanks in advance. Doug Mc

Most of the specs and parts are the same. The 581i has less power.
Check the Humminbird web site for comparison.
Get a second opinion about the health of your 727 and not from the same location that said it doesn't work.

do you know anyone with another 500 or 700 Series unit you should be able to snap on and test your 727 and test there headunit on your set-up to make sure your unit is what is not working.
But your other question and 500 0r 700 Series 2D sonar unit will work on that same hardware and base.

I have the 798ciSi HD combo on the console and am running a y cable with a transom mount for the side imaging and a thru the hull ducer for higher speed operation. The system works great but now for my question.I would like to add a larger screen model to the console and move the 798 to the bow off the trolling motor. Will the transducers I have currently wired to the console work with the 998 model with SI or do I have to start rigging it all over again? Asking this question again.I didnt see an answer to it.Thanks

The Shoot Thru and Y Cable are the same...
And the Compact SI Transducer will work but has smaller crystals and only produces 455kHz readings...
The HDSI transducer is standard on the larger models and is a dual frequency 455 and 800 kHz transducer with larger crystals that produce a crisper image.
I would recommend changing out the SI Transducer to take advantage of the benefits. But the other will work but limits the units capabilities.

I'm having an issue with my 500 series display shutting down rather quickly after initial power up. The unit stays on and will beep when I hit buttons but doesn't display anything. I am assuming this is some sort of power issue.
I have it set up on a pond prowler and run it off of the same battery as the trolling motor. The transducer is mounted on the stern. I have a seperate 12v SLA battery that i have tried it on to provide an independent power source but get the same result.
I have tried the pin adjustment that i read in an earlier posting with no success. My next step is to completely disconnecting the unit and re-wire everything to see if I can trouble shoot the issue. Is there anything else I can try? Maybe a fuse in the power connection? The original owner said he never had any issues.

I have a 597HdDi and I want to manually enter the coordinates of a desired waypoint. Is it possisble to enter this and if so, how to??
I've been thru the 155 page manual three times without finding any mention of this.
Thanks.

Make sure the unit is getting adequate power supply and it fits firmly on the base you can cross test by removing cables from Mounting base and plugging direct.
