I have caught a few fish lately that I think are Buffalo. Sorry for no pics. I am nearly positive they are not common carp.

My question however is what is a Big Mouth Buffalo and what is a Small Mouth Buffalo and how can I tell the difference?

Much appreciated!!

A smallmouth buffalo's mouth is more turned down and smaller (not by much)than a big mouth buffs. There are a lot of images on google or bing, but that is the long and short of it.

PB Common Carp....... 38 lbs
PB Mirror Carp........12 lbs 8 oz
PB SM Buffalo........ 53 lbs
PB Grasser........... 48 lbs 4 oz
PB Blue cat.......... 17 lbs (caught on maize)

You will know if you catch a bigmouth, but the difference between a black and smallmouth hard to tell. the smallmouth has pitch black lifeless eyes and the lips are thin, but blacks have shades in the pupils and there lips are thicker and fold on the bottom. There is no color difference between them so I don't know why they named it black buffalo smile
