I have a 135 Mercury 2 stroke and am wondering what sort of transom saver I need if any. I travel about 120 miles one way to the water. I am new to this as this is my first boat. The only thing it has is the manual locking lever that keeps the motor up. What do you guys reccomend for a transom saver or a lock and stow type device?

I am a fan of the Lock and Haul device. I have used similar devices for many years and never had a problem.

there will be others that disagree but you can't go wrong with a motor toter

I absolutely HATED my transom saver (same as picture above) - it did not keep the engine straight with dual hydraulic steering and marked the hell out of my lower unit!

This solution is the BEST thing I have ever used: http://www.m-ywedge.com/

The m-y-wedge is simple, works perfectly, and takes up no space. Performs the same function as a transom saver but, is much better in every way.

The centering clips keep my hydraulic steering perfectly straight now.

What I do not like about any of the t-n-t style brackets is that it does nothing for the motor shaking horizonally while trailering. I cannot see those style making any difference at all. With the motor toter style it stops horizonal and vertical movement, and with the older styl wood transums, you need all the support that you can get. The advantage of the new style is the ease of installation, forget about support.

I agree that if you have an older transom that flexes you need trailer support, but you also need additional transom work to minimize the flex. If flex is not a problem then you need to keep the motor from shaking while trailering, and nothing does a better job than the Lock-n-Haul. This small universal device completely removes all of the slack in the motor both up and down and left and right, without the use of steering clips.

If you need the support of a 1" square aluminum or steel tube to "save you transom", you need a new transom. The Lock and Haul type system is all you need if your boat is sound.

After thinking about it I think what I am using is probably the best thing for me even though it's a bit of a pain. Mine is some off brand motor toter..... It does take the stress off the transom (mine is wooden and 81 model) My motor doesn't flop over when I make a turn either. Good luck or ? I think the centering clips are cool and the block although it holds the motor up would not remove any of the stress off my transom. Good topic. Thx

Scott

i use the trailer supported saver , it seems to me that those other types dont take any load off the transom, ive used the same type on all my boats without problems

I use the motor toter, I don't have any transom problems but it's cheap insurance.

This looks like an excellent product!

I've been using the Lock-n-Haul on a 250 ProXS for several years. My motor will absolutely not move. I think if you check, the use of steering clips will still allow some movement of the motor. I had been using the wedge type support previously. My understanding is they are good, but you really need two. If I went to two of them, I would have to keep up with three things including the clips. I researched other types of transom supports and found out about Lock-n-Haul on this forum. It has worked great for me and now I only have to keep up with one very light, compact device.
