The one in cedar park has a better selection this year than I have ever seen. People that work there are idiots but they have a lot of baits there this year.

Didn't they change ownership a year or so ago? I think it was bought by a New York investment firm. Probably will get worse.

Alot of these stores might be re tooling for new products and re arraging. Thats what the store of Bryant Irvin did. Over the winter they put alot of stuff on clearance and were'nt restocking. but now they have added a bunch of new stuff and also moved stuff around and stocked back up. Just give them time and dont freak out too much right now. They were almost out of chatterbaits when I went the other day. Went today on my lunch break and they had restocked all of them and they are still on sale!

Haven't noticed any difference at the Lewisville store.

Academy is not going downhill. The reason that you see the fishing sections thinnned out is because Academy is in the process of setting new planograms for all the stores. There are 142 Academy's right now and when you are setting new planograms it takes a little bit of time to get all the stores on the same page and full of the new inventory that their planogram shows. The stores that looked bad are in the middle of this transition. It doesn't happen over night. The inventory varies per store. Not every single Academy is the exact same. For example, the Houston stores will have more saltwater baits than freshwater because Houston it is a predominantly saltwater market. The Katy store off Grand Parkway has the grandebass products if anybody in Houston are looking for them. I understand it causes anger to a customer when they come in and see an unorganized fishing section. The field and stream division of Academy drives the majority of the sales for the entire company. Academy is not going to thin out these sections because that would cause them to take a giant hit. Academy did get bought by KKR a private equity firm a year ago but they have done very little to change the management style.

sold out last year to KKR last year and i would imagine they are moving to higher margin items like clothing . . most people bulk buy academy's closeouts and once a year sales in fishing and I'm sure they don't make anything after overhead from 1$ bag of plastics and 2.50 crank baits . . Ive noticed they are losing all of their upper end reels too

Do they not care about how many people get mad about the length of time it takes to basically restock? In the mean time they're ordering from everyone else on the internet with no real reason to even go back to an Academy. Who wants to keep going to a store that never has anything in stock? Just a waste of gas and time. The store in Longview is horrible and has been for years.

I was in the location on Forest Ln.in Dallas last night and they were in the middle of there planogram change also. It has gotten to a point that I can no longer count on Academy to stock the items that I'm interested in. BTW, they did have a 6 year old heavily USED ROD on their shelf for $89.
