You only have to engage the emergency brake a click or 2 to get the lights to go out. This will not cause the brakes to make contact and will not stop you from backing or pulling back up the ramp. I drove a 1997 for about 8 years and had to do this every time. Yep, 99 Suburban, I do the same.

I have a 02 Sierra and I had a 99 Silverado. If you "quickly" push the "dome override" switch twice, the lights will turn off and you will hear a ding. Hope this is helpful.

While fishing at the coast, coming back to the ramp from a long day we saw a brand new boat trying to park at the dock but was having trouble because his motor was trimmed all the way up... he kept saying it was as low as it would go down. After ten minutes of manuvering to the dock someone finally showed him the motor trim lock on his brand new yamaha fourstroke. People like this should not own boats or have to take a class on COMMON SENSE!

I gain alot of buisness just lending a hand to clueless folks at the ramp by giving them a quick lesson and handing them a business card

I have a story from this weekend. I felt the trailer push my truck a little at a light in Glenrose leaving Squaw Creek heading back to Alvarado. It felt normal like a little weight shift or something... Well it wasn't. Monday morning when I was getting in my truck i noticed the ball on my truck. The nut was gone from my ball! I drove God knows how long with the ball just sitting in my bumper not attached at all. I am extremely thankful nothing happened. I had safety chains, so all the damage would've likely been to my truck/boat, but WOW. I checked it about a month ago and it was tight so I am clueless how this happened. I only pulled the boat twice in the last month or so. I felt really stupid lol Live and Learn!

I saw a boat coming in for a tournament and they were cutting it close. One guy was at the front of the boat with his bag of fish well as the approached the bank the driver hits reverse to hard and the guy with his bag go over the front of the boat and into about foot of water. He bag opens and he lost 2 fish out of 5...

Years ago, I was launching my new to me boat on its maiden voyage. I 'thought' I was good. LOL. I unhooked everything and backed it down. Kind of hit the brakes to slide it off since I was solo. I had a rope tied off. Boat didn't move an inch. Went a little deeper and still nothing so I climbed in that sucker and put it In reverse thinking maybe it was just hung up on something. I had thing wide open in reverse and still nothing. Thought maybe I had forgot to take off the transom straps so I pulled it out of the water. I walked around the boat and saw absolutely no reason why that boat shouldn't have come off the trailer. Try it again. Still wouldnt move. I backed that trailer in so far that the back wheels of the trailer started floating side ways in the ramp. I am laughing at myself now. To say I was baffled would be an under statement. So I pull it up again and make another walk and that is when I see the problem. The trailer had one of those boat buddies and the bolt was still locked in place. I had no idea the boat buddy was installed on the trailer. Unlatched it and launched again like nothing happened. I still laugh at myself for that day and I am very very grateful that it was on a weekday at a not very popular boat ramp. I was the only witness.

People like this should not own boats or have to take a class on COMMON SENSE! Saw this happen to a bunch of clueless 19 year olds trying to take daddy's pontoon out one afternoon on Tyler. They backed it down the ramp, up the ramp, down the ramp, up the ramp. 7 guys, 3 girls. I asked them if they needed help and they said they couldn't get their motor to trim down. Walked back to the back, saw the trim lock that was labeled "TRIM LOCK", and released it for them, shaking my head.

I have them keeper on the sterring rods to. I drilled a small hole at one end and put some briaded line through it. At the other end I put a big washer that goes on the end of the hook on the boat strap. That way when you unhook the boat from the trailer you have to remove the washer which will remind you to remove from the steering rods.
Thanks,

it was nice of the two gents to jump out and help but the back of a runaway boat is not a great place to be either!

Sounds pretty funny, but not as bad as the first time I backed the boat trailer into the water. I backed half of the truck in the water before I pulled up.
