Is the JP spawn already over, middle, just starting?

I can't seem to find crappie out there. I went and fished the creeks last week but all I got was a bunch of bass...

Although they were fun, I would like to get a mess of crappie in.

I went back Saturday and caught 2 crappie on a worm while carolina rigging for bass in about 7 feet of water... go figure.

Just curious where I should hunt them in the morning.

The spawn is just starting. We are a long way from it being over. Last weeks cold front pushed things back for awhile.

It's well underway. Heard the water was 78 degrees in some coves on Sunday. It won't be long and they will be done.

Only the teenagers crappies are out in Joe Pool Lake. That is why we are only catching the 9.75. The old, wise and FAT crappies stay home and watch Sponge Bob Square-pants on the fish tube.

Haha.

Well I went out for 6 hours and caught oodles of male bass, a catfish, and finally about an hour before I left I found some crappie.

I checked about 5 creeks, varying depths, varying water temps, clarity etc. I finally found some males in a wide cove about 3.5 ft deep.

Only got 5 in the boat but 4 of em were barely keepers. They looked more black than white with all of those specks on them. However, they were not torn up/red etc like spawning fish get.

So that leads me to believe that much of the lake is just starting to spawn. One end of the lake is about 64 and the other is about 71. Totally different water clarity as well.

Will keep hunting em.

Good Luck.

Don't know for sure, but by the look of that current lake level, I'm sure water is being release = slow bites

Took wife and kids out to the slips yesterday about 6:00pm. Not fishing but just for a pleasure evening walk. While I was there, master John let me borrow one of his rod. Keeping them honest on the slips, we caught about 10 each for the 1 hr spent (19 of them were adolescence)
My fishing buddy was the nibble man (handing John and I a nibble occasionally as needed). He personally released this fish as we were leaving...

Males caught weren't all that dark. Spawn isn't over yet per our observation! If the water is stable when the gate is closed, fishing would pick up...

It's clearing up nicely and definitely dropping. I have been there 3 of 4 past days

Currently releasing @ 850 CFS at Joe Pool.
