I am just now getting into frog fishing.....something I have never done before. I went with the most common recommendation and picked up a Spro Bronzeye Frog to try yesterday.

It seems to me that "walking the dog" with a frog is much more difficult than with other baits (such as a Spook). It also seemed much easier to "walk the dog" at the end of a long cast.....with it gradually getting more difficult as it got closer to the boat. Why is this? I'm throwing it on 50# Power Pro braid and a 7' G-Loomis IMX Med-Hvy rod.

I also noticed you have to squeeze the water out after every 8-10 casts or so....

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You have to use real real short sharp twitches of the rod tip. Im talking 2" or so. I always try to leave slack in line and pop it like that. Once you get it started its easy to maintain. How much "tip" does that rod have? I like them to have a fairly slow tip with a lot of backbone about 12-14" down. Just my preference though

I use a 7.6heavy rod that has a fast tip....this allows me to work the frog yet still provide much needed backbone....short quick twitches downward while leaving some slack while turning the handle will give you the action you are looking for...dont have a tight line while fishing a frog...you want to let the bass inhale it...count to 3...then set the hook....

Btw.....add some pauses in there as well....fish will usually strike when it stops moving!

Just from my point of view I really don't like to "walk the dog" with a frog. I have never seen a frog work like that on the water. I prefer to do more of a pop and slide motion. Like a frog does. But to each their own. By the way if you try one of the Spro Poppin Frog, you'll get a easier side to side action.

Jackall Iobee Frog is tuned to walk the dog right out of the package. Probably the easiest frog I have found to do that. I like the Koppers Live Targets too.

I don't even try to walk it, never seen a frog go back and forth like that any way. I've caught lots of fish on frogs too...

Sometimes they like it moving quick and some times they will not hit it unless you are deadly slow with it...almost barely moving it.

another thing to mention is to put a split ring on the frog. Forgot to mention that but it helps.
