I've fished the 'ol girl since '81 and got to thinking of some of the good times I have been blessed with there. Remember when:you could fish off the old 154 road bed as it entered the water? Remember: the old bridge over Little Caney Creek(up north) Remember: when you couldn't see the shore for the trees (in full bloom)? Remember: the massive population of water snakes? Remember: Lunker Lodge? Lucky Fields? What do you remember?

150 fish days were more common.

Yep good times. Our place was on the west end of the lake and I remember riding my dirt bike up to Johnson Lake a sneaking in over the dam to fish. The fishing the creek as it went under the old 515 and 514 before the lake came over the top. Good memories for sure. Oh and the snakes you are right. Had one try and get in the boat just about everyday till they got hit in the head with a paddle. Fun Times !

I remember all the huge wasp/hornets nests in the trees and I definitely remember not being able to see across coves for the green foliage on trees although I wasn't really a Fork regular until about '85 which was probably the tail end for these things.

I remember the first time I fished it. Fishing in the oak trees with full foliage was a blast. Back then there were no boat lanes. I fished the spawn. I had one fish that when I set the hook I did not even turn it and 20 lb line snapping sounded like a rifle shot. I casted a lizard out to a tree line, put the rod between my legs to light a cig and I felt the rod move when the line tightened. Good memories. A annual coamping membership at Mustang was $50.

I remember camping on an island full of giant oak trees (tornado not far away that night and ended up holding up the tent for a while) That island is way under water now either off Mustang or Williamsim so old I forget.

My grandad always told me they ruined some of the best squirrel hunting when they built that dam... LOL I started fishing it from a boat in 91' but was raised and still have a lot of family in Quitman.

I remember how easy it was to catch 100+ bass in a day, maybe not all monster size, but non-stop action, and pretty much on the bait of your choice. I remember the struggle to being able to get to the shoreline during the spawning season due to the thickness of the timber and limbs. I remember the countless water snakes and having them fall out of the lower limbs into the water as you passed by. Plenty tried to seek refuge in the boat during the springtime too. I remember those same limbs having countless HUGE red wasp nests in them and trying to escape them when you would inadvertently bump the boat into the tree/bush they were in! I remember coves absolutely covered in grass during the summer months. I remember leaving my boat in the boat stalls all night at Pope's Landing for 3-4 days while we stayed there and never once considered taking my tackle out of the boat. Yes, we locked the storage boxes but never had anyone try to get into them. Yes, those days were good too!

I remember fishing shallow water crossing when the oak trees still had green leaves on them. Every afternoon you could take a white spinnerbait and wear fish out on the bank that is now underwater at the mouth of Wolf Creek. Remember great early spring days on the old road bed in Wolf Creek. Running wide open on the boat lane from Mustang to the 515 Bridge north dodging trees in a brand new Bass Tracker II. The Original Mustang Boat ramp off the point. The mill foil on Oil Wells pass, the old Hydra Sports Tournaments. Mocassin Lizards and Bang-o-lures and the willow trees by SRA and the dam that had the largest live bass I have ever seen. Broke dad's 20# Maxima line like it was sewing thread.
