I'm in the process of planning my first trip down the Upper Brazos. Wanted to do the stretch from PK to Rochelles over 2 days. I haven't been camping in a long time and I'm looking at the gear right now and I have a question. Is there room on a sandbar to fit an 8 person tent or should we plan on getting 2-3, 3 man tents for 5 people? Any other suggestions for the trip would greatly be appreciated since I'm a total newbie to this. Thanks! Edit: This is the tent I'm looking at btw http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-17-Foot-10...4625&sr=8-1

There's a fairly roomy campsite at about mile 7 on river right. There are some very roomy campsites from about mile 11-12 on down, especially on the left bank.

Just me but it`s better two take 1 and 2 man tents then one big tent . 1st. over night I did we took an 3 man from 2 guys and gear. Takes up alot of space and weight in kayak . Like 5 lbs for 2 man an 15 or more for large tents. Have fun you will learn from this trip. I learn something every trip. what you really need and what you don`t need.

Ive done the trip several times. There are places to put up a large tent but its easier and more comfortable to be in seperate tents. I would also consider making it a 3 day trip. A 2 day trip is a lot of paddling with not a lot of fishing.
And X2 on bringing an ax or saw. Made that mistake before

Take smaller tents. It will be better for weight, PLUS you will be trying to find a large campsite and not fishing. With smaller tents almost any site will do. TAKE A SAW! I found that WAY more useful than an axe.
