I have a fairly new series 31 Intrestate battery for cranking on my boat. After about a half day of use when I crank the outboard my voltage will drop to 9 volts or sometimes lower. When it does a low voltage alarm on my graph will sound. After the engine starts the voltage will come back up to 13 or so. Should it drop this far when cranking?

check all battery connections, may just need to tighten one up. sounds like a connection is not being made till the arc happens.

I would have that battery load tested also. If it is no good then you can either get another one or get one of these.

It sounds like your battery could be low on acid and should be topped off with some distilled water.
