I've heard that the crappie spawn is more dependent on the length of the day and the bass spawn is more based on temperature. Could explain why some years are different than others.

Sometimes hard2tell! With Pre, Spawn, and Post Spawn 4 all fish! U get alot of overlappn!

I was born and lived a while in East Texas. Never even new there was a crappie until I started hanging out with 'want to be Texans'. My dad actually whooped my ars when he heard me call it a crappie. Where are you from son, New York.

Where are you from son, New York. Lol i was thinkin most southerners would know "white perch" myself. In louisiana we get alot callin em sacalait also. Heck actually locally they might look at your crazy callin em crappie.(dem yankey white perchies)

My grand parents also used the term "papermouths" when referring to crappie, but white perch was mainly used by all the ol' timers around the marina cafe on Livingston.

I'm from Massachusetts originally and I've heard crappie called Calico Bass...we call sand bass white perch up there.

Sand bass, black crappie, white crappie, largemouth bass, gar and carp, catfish, then bream!! A lot of overlapping, but thats the sequence man!! East Texas anyway!

Sandies 53-55 degrees, crappiie 56-62 degrees, largemouth 60-75! But better at a full moon and 65-70 degrees! Look it up Jerry!! Crappie definately should spawn before largemouth! Its all based on water temp, and crappie spawn in cooler water than bass do!

Buzz,the fish don't read those books.For two weeks I have been seeing spawning bass and catching them with bloody tails.Have yet to catch a crappie with a bed tail and have caught at least 200 in the last two weeks with more than half full of eggs and the rest males.Bass are on beds right now in the same area I am catching crappie in 15 feet of water.
