Last week the WB were biting on white warm. This week they seem to bite green warm (2 to 3 inches warm). However, live bait (ghost minnow) seems to work best at bottom.
I have not try shad yet but it may work as well because every fish I caught had shad inside it.
I don't know about hybrid as I have not caught one in the lake yet.

(Welch park)Caught this fat hybrid on a chrome rattle trap with 8lb test.Shad was popping surface everywhere around me but unable to get any bites on shad.Guys fishing in the same area with ghost minnows had nice stringers.Lots of activity in the water.Have a feeling the lake is going to bust wide open with fish everywhere.Might try again in April.Oh! buy the way if anyone didn't notice, bluebonnet is blooming everywhere.Sure sign that this year is going to be a good one up there in Somerville.

This year is turning out to be a very good fishing year. The rain really brought the lake back to life and the fishing has been great! Nice hybrid addicted!

Any lures resemble what they are feeding right now will probably get you a hookup on some of them hybrids.Gut open that hybrid I caught and her belly had partially digested shad inside.Working your lures close to the shore lines is my best bet for you catching some hybrids.Them hybrids often come in real close early in the morning chasing them school of shads.

Thanks for the info! Hope to make it soon out and find some schooling. Been a long time since I have experienced the intense fight of a hybrid.

Is there a certain type of bait used to most effectively catch the whites and hybrids in Somerville? A preferred color that has been working the best?
Also, for all who like to get into some great large mouth action we tore them up on Fayette yesterday! The bite is great right now and the lake was not negatively affected by the previous rains. Any Rattle trap type lures to find the fish trolling in 3-8 ft. of water. (depth of most of these type lure)No need to go deep right now but still see people out there with Hellbenders in March. Trolling these lures allows you to cover a large amount of water very quickly to find the fish. If a second or more fish is found on the second pass, after a fish has been caught on the first pass, then find the structure/significant change on your depthfinder. Mark it with a buoy or waypoint on your depthfinder. Drift back through that area casting Rattle-trap type lures, Roadrunners, S&H spinnerbaits, weighted Mepps(splitshot above the lure) or "Shysters", or even very small size Speck rigs. Retrieve is the key. When you can get "dialed" on 'em then slowly lower your anchor and put the hurt on 'em. While trolling vary your speed every once in awhile or even pull your rod towards the bow and slowly let it back. I'm most successful at 3.7-4mph. That is fast by most people's standards. But ya want to invoke an impulse strike and also cover a lot of water. Work a "good point or area" several times at various depths. As the Shad population increases in the next few weeks then you can even try a silver spoon, or a Pet Spoon behind the boat.
