as of friday, water was still moving really fast, much higher, and very dirty. Out of a dozen people there, we only saw 3 or 4 whites caught. Lots of gar. Couldnt wade across. Probably could have jumped in and swam across, but the water was pretty swift.

Were you fishing the rapids by the large house? I tried toms creek with no success. The whites should be running by now I'd think.

Just got back from Canyon. Went up from Rebecca Creek Ramp 11(that is open as of today). Got as far as the rapids and fished down from there. Caught a whopping 1 white bass. water still too stained and is up a bit. Disappointing to say the least.
As far as the land route goes, I was able to drive down to campfire drive and get to the river just to look around. I saw a sign proclaiming the area a private park and that it was for local property owners only. That kinda confuses me; last I looked at the map of the lake on the Corps of engineers site the land along the riverbank there is marked as belonging to the Corps. So my question is, does a "homeowners association" have the authority to block public access to land that I thought was open for public use. I could be wrong, maybe something has changed since the map was last updated.
But, as I said, Rebecca creek ramp 11 is now open. Good news there.

The way I understand it the COE has control of what is done on surface land up to the 918 ft elevation and properties (parks) owned by COE. Normal pool level is 909 ft. Land above 918 ft level can be owned and controlled by land owners and subdivisions. So subdivisions and home owners association can limit access to the lake thru their private lands. Best to use public access or COE parks. Some subdivisions eventually limited access to home/property owners due to complaints of all night parties, low noise, trashing and damage to table and facilities provided to home/property owners. For that you can thank the few thoughtless or inconsiderates.

Thanks for the response. I didn't know quite how that worked. Its a d@#n shame that we can't access the river there because at the right time that one spot I went to see would be a great place to take my kiddo to fish. Another example of how a few ruined it for all of us. Thanks again for the information/explanation.

Sorry it's a little late for today's fishing trip but I was out at Rebecca Creek yesterday. I went downstream to fish for catfish and picked up 3 nice blues on cut bluegills. Would have stayed longer but I had a real hard time catching perch for bait.
I talked to a few who were fishing for whites and it seems that nobody was catching much. Water was muddy with lots of debris and a good current. Apparently not the best conditions for whites but works well for catfish.
Glad to hear that the ramp is open because it was closed on Sunday even though the water was up to the white line on the ramp. Ironically, as I was loading to leave a sheriff came driving up and mentioned that he had received reports that people were messing with the barricade. Now he won't have to waste his time again - at least until the next dry spell.

From what I gather, the various ramps are closed when the water is X amount low from pool level, but even when the water gets back up to that level, I think the 'powers that be" don't open the ramp until the level becomes x amount of feet above that closure level. I guess it gives them a buffer to keep from opening and closing again. I once saw a site that had that information on it, but I can't find it right now. Canyon is currently at 901.95ft and pool level is 909ft. We are slowly getting back up there! Steven

Here is the current status for the county ramps. Hopefully we won't get into a long dry period like last year, and Canyon won't turn into another Medina lake. I truly believe that the white bass runs have been hurt with the previous drought of year before last and why this year was also a bust. It might take a few years of steady water flows to bring it back like it once was. http://www.cceo.org/road/closures.asp
Just one more cast!
