Obviously, there are some who REALLY care what they look like-

So doesn't a good quality sunscreen give protection or am I missing something? I put on sunscreen liberally on everything that might get exposure when I get dressed before fishing, or working in the yard etc. and rarely get burned. I even re-apply at lunch time especially on my hands, nose, ears and back of my neck. I can't fault anyone for taking precautions especially if they have had skin cancer in the past, but humans and the sun have been together for a while now....common sense is always your friend.

Oh, and I met Shaw briefly at a BASS University event years ago and he seems like a real nice fellow. He got pinned into a conversation by some real opinionated fisherman (not me-honest) and he patiently listened and then diplomatically escaped. A real class act from what I observed.

My wife (pharmacist) went to some big continuing education seminar about sunscreens....I couldn't understand half the stuff she told me about it all....except that beyond like a 30 spf you are wasting your money and the sunscreen had to have that special ingredient in it...helioplex (Neutrogena brand)..broad spectrum uva/uvb protection. But there is no protection like covering up.

I cover up just like Shaw. That is common sense. Sunscreen is the next option. I don't like to use it. Covering up properly keeps you shaded and cool. You don't have to address the cancer issue because you were forgetful or stubborn. It's the best option for me. Preventing overexposure is the way to deal with the sun.

I recall watching somethign about sunscreen vs covering up. Most people dont use sunscreen properly to get the full protection, You need to apply first before even out on the water and then reapply often and not just 1 or 2 times more during the day. Not reappyling the sunscreen is just about like not evening using it. Sunscreen wears off with time, sweat, water, rubbing and such. So it is just better in some cases to cover up.

I bought the Buff's at BPS and at first didnt like them but now I dont even notice them on. They are goofy looking but do serve the purpose very well IMO.

Thanks for noticing. I wear all of the sun protection that I can. Each morning I put sunscreen on my face, ears, neck and hands and I wear protective clothing including a Sun Gaiter, Sun Gloves, long sleeve shirts, long pants, shoes and hats. Simms makes some very comsfortable clothing for sun protection, and it is not hot in the sun.

Living in Florida and fishing all of the time, I do not want to take a chance. I do not have a sensitivity to sun exposure, and I have not had any biopsies come back positive, yet. I have had a number of precancerous lesions removed. Every 6 months to a year, I visit my dermatologist for a head to toe check. Hopefully, if I do have skin cancer, it will be caught early.

It's not worth taking a chance on, not to mention, I haven't had a sunburn in a long time.
