There are a number of people on the forum whose computers are infected with the W32/Klez virus. It uses your email address book to spread itself by picking your contacts email addresses and sending itself showing your contacts as the address of origin.

I have a tool called WaspScan that will remove it. You have to use the dos prompt to run the program, but it is very simple.

If a few people could volunteer to help us get this program around, I can help them with the setup and running of the software, and they can pass it along to others.

Make a post and email me if you want to help get this software out to the group. It is freeware, and in a zipped file, so you will need WinZip to open it.

JP,

If you know anyone around the Abilene area that has it, I'd be glad to help. I've cleanded several using Norton's removal tool.

I keep getting infected mailings from bigbobbass@charter.net and have no idea who this might be. I know it can change the e-mail addresses to disguise its origin, but I've gotten maybe a 100 or better from this guy, so I figure he has to be infected. Besides, his incoming mailbox stays at the limit according to Charter.

Also, shouldn't who ever you e-mail it to save it to a floppy for work on another PC instead of them e-mailing it to an infected PC?

Emailing to an infected computer won't cause a problem.

This will make it easier. I have uploaded WaspScan to the TFF server.

Click on http://www.texasfishingforum.com/waspscan.zip to download.

Hope this helps everyone.

Directions are in the text file - if you have problems understanding them post here.

I've got a friend at Network Associates (McAfee) that I talked to about current virus threats. Here is another tool you can use to test your machine - it removes a number of the curent viruses.

Theese are tools for people that think they are already infected.

They clean the virus from your system.

another easy one is to go to www.grisoft.com and simply download the software for AVG. It kills 'em all and updates itself so it always knows what's out there. A real Klez killer.

If any of you are operating on the Internet in any fashion, email or web browsing, without anti-virus software then you will get infected, no doubts. There are websites that will "push" viruses and worms onto your machine simply by going there.

Anyone who wants help with AVG, email me and I can contact you directly. Not trying to contradict J.P.'s efforts but to add to them in a way that I can.

The Stinger Scan that is in my other post, the one with the link, is even better.

Glad it helped!
