So I decided to spend more than $50 on a rod and I ordered two Duckett Micro Magic rods from BPS. I wanted them quickly (to take with me to the lake this weekend) so I paid an extra $53 for next day air shipping. Well they didn't arrive on time so I had to leave without them. Yada, yada, yada...they arrived a day late and both were damaged. It seems to be Fedex's fault, but BPS is going to make it right. Anyone else had a rod ordering experience like this?

I usually order my rods from tacklewarehouse and never have a problem. They ship them in really durable tubes and you would really have to want to damage it.

+2 I like to pick my rods up and feel them before I drop hard earned cash on them. They could have been broke before they were sent to you.

I've bought a few online(5-6) and had them shipped and so far been blessed not to have received a damaged one.

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it !

Also, where I live I can't just run to a store and pick up the rod I want.

I've ordered rods from Cabelas and Bass Pro and have never had a problem with punctuality or damage.

I have a Largemouth at home....sometimes she lets me go fishing.

Haven't bought a rod in a store...well ever probably. Thirty years old now and haven't had a problem. Take Cody's advice...TW will pack it up tight. Forget about the mammoth retailers and give the smaller internet guys a chance. If that doesn't work then order from BPS and take them back to the store and be nice...they'll switch them out.

Not so.

Buying a rod from a brick and mortar store is NO guarantee that a rod was not damaged in shipping. Some rods are damaged in shipping such that you cannot tell that they have been damaged. You purchase them and they break in a fairly short order. I LOVE St. Croix rods, but that do not do the job that they should when it comes to properly packing them for shipping to retailers.
