Me and some of my buddies went to Whitney every ramp that we found was closed. Called the state park, they said their ramp was closed as well, they thought the ramp at the dam was open, but wasn't sure. We found only one ramp that was open, it was at Chisholm Trail Park. The lake is about 5 or 6ft high and probably still is rising somewhat and the water looks like chocolate quick in most places with some junk floating around.
Didn't catch anything, but one Gar on a chrome Hotspot. Not worth going there until a lot of this junk settles and clears out somewhat.

McCown ramp is open .... its. fine. The lake has fallen about a foot since its high. We fished all day Friday and most of the day today (Sunday)and didn't get one bite. There were lots of boats on the lake. There were 29 rigs on the ramp at McCown.
Water is very dirty, lots of floating trash including logs and stumps. Be careful with that. The water temp today was 68 to 70 degrees when we came off at 1:30 p.m. We didn't find any fish shallow. Lake is very dirty from Juniper Cove down to the dam area... lots of stuff in the water and the water is very stained or dark tea colored. Only fish we saw on the finder were 20 feet and below (except gar which seem to be sun bathing).
Not many dead fish... unlike the golden algae out break a few years back when the banks and ramps were covered... but, I don't recall that this had much impact on the bass fishing back then.. Now, I don't know... we haven't been able to find any fish.

There are a few dead fish around... we have seen less than a dozen each time we were on the lake over the last couple of weeks.... We have seen times before where there were dozens if not hundreds washed up on the shore around the ramp and other locations.... so, is there a fish kill, yes... but not bad.... in the past, it hasn't hurt the bass fishing... this time, I don't know... we just can't find any fish.. but I can't speak for other folks.

Cool thx for info.Mother-in-law has a place down there been fishing Whitney since 1997 . Was a great fishery .cant wait for it to not get another dose of the evil "GOLDEN ALGAE" . the stuff's killing my buzz lol. Seems like every time lake starts to recover algae comes back.
