Hello everyone,

Just checking in. I fished alot over the summer until about the last month when I sunk some money and time into this:

Its a 1966 Scout 800. Hopefully she will eventually make a good hunting and fishing rig.
Right now I have been doing lots of hunting, and of course been very busy with school. I am looking forward to Christmas Break which will mostly consist of working on the scout and tying flies for spring.
Other great news includes my summer vacation. I am headed to Montana for two weeks with the family and to flyfish with my dad. I'm stoked and can't wait to hit the water. Does anyone have any good suggestions as to what flies to start tying up? I will absolutely start searching and learning depending on the spots we will hit but I thought I might as well ask even for conversations sake.

I hope everyone has been having a great Winter, and its great to talk smile

Nice Scout, has a lovely patina to it. Gas or diesel?

As far as Montana, that's a big place. Specific location would help alot. I'd Google the shops near where you are, see if they have a BB where regulars post

Gas.
4 cylinder 152 4 speed twinstick transfercase.

Plannin a mild lift to fit some 31's. nothing outrageous for now. I'll probably fix the rust, paint her dersert tan and drive her as a ranch, hunting, fishing rig. I drive a toyota rav4 but am definately a truck person. I got this because they look dang cool and I needed a reliable 4x4.

I'll figure out where were headed and let ya know. Hows everything been with yall?

I love scouts. Most capable 4x4 in my opinion!

Man, an Inty Scout. Have like three of those forever planted on our ranch. Although ours are permantently redneckified and therefore shaved of all dignity. Looks like an awesome project. Aren't those bumper guard from a 73-87 chevy?

There's a growing Scout contingent here in Denton. We had one (just like that but green) growing up in South Texas. Used to take it to South Padre Island just about every weekend. There was only one paved road back then, and we needed 4WD just to get to the beach house. Simpler times.

You'll have to check with the locals up there for flies, but it's a good time around here - to be tying flies.

I don't know what part of the summer you are going to be there, but you might google Klod Hopper and learn to tie a kind of easy to tie and effective foam hopper pattern. Also, it never hurts to have a few soft hackles with you.

Have fun with this stuff.

Finally after alot of crazy, busy, school, I got all my stuff back to school after spring break. Dorm Room fly factory.

And this Afternoon I was extremly bored so I headed over to Cibolo Nature Center in Bourne with the trusty 3wt and a box of flies in tow. It was a pretty fun couple of hours, caught 7 Bass and 10 Panfish. It was SO nice to finally toss a line again after so long. It was also fabulous to see the Creek and the Nature Center very healthy again!

First cast, first fish smile Pretty fiesty little guy.

And just a few more pics I snapped.

Thats all for now Folks! Oh and by the way, I put the trans and tcase I pulled out of that scout, back in, all both fixed back up, and started the engine for the first time over christmas break!

Tight Lines!

Sorry for the terrible phone pics.

Just realized I missed these posts, Just figured out we will be there for TWO weeks in June! It will be pretty great! Still searching for a spot to light at, we may even do a week on one river and the second on another. Thanks for the suggestions Big Dale i'll look into that.

Gotta love scouts, they never stop truckin' and everyone and their dog drives a jeep so they are just dang cool. There is actually a club called North Texas Binders that is very active up there, glad to hear they are geting noticed!
