TPWD has released almost 800,000 redfish in Fairfield since the massive fish kill. Now one would hope that at least some percentage of the fish survived the kill even if the amount was small. Hopefully several fish farms will donate redfish--this is how FF gets much of its adult sized stockings, farm fish will grow too large to market and the farmer either wipes them out or donates them to TPWD for stockings--how long before this will be a fishable lake again?

According to the TP&W website they have suspended stocking of redfish in Fairfield. I dont believe there has been a stocking since the 2011 fish kill. Without yearly stocking the redfish days at fairfield are over.

Went last weekend before the last rain and lake is full. Attendant at gate said there are some legal reds being caught but few and far between. She confirmed stocking has been suspended but may be restarted if they go a yr or two without a kill. In the meantime it is a heck of a tilapia farm. 2 gallons of filets in an hour with the cast net. Several boats were in the hot water cove skiing and lots of folks swimming with water temps 82-89. Caught 3 lmb up to 3# in the cast net as well.

I just wish they would try and do like 50,000 a year and see how it goes. Instead of just cutting it all off.

The gene pool could use a little chlorine.

For a while they talked about shifting the stockings to Squaw Creek anyone else heard about that?

No but I sure wish they would stock lake Arlington with some of them reds. The power plant there keeps the water pretty warm

I thought they shut down the power planet at Fairfield? If they did, they are wasting their time in restocking red's back in there it would be a waste of time and money.

Not just any power planet lake can be stocked with red's, the lake water has to have a certain amount of salinity ( Salt ) in the water, in other words the PH has to be just right along with temperature.

Terrible situation with Fairfield...I think part of the problem was that there are too many fish in that lake to begin with...I will agree with Jackie that it's a very sad situation...I'm sure that there are fish in there that survived the kills.
