My dad had a business when I was 10-12 years old and was always working. Once in a while to "escape", we'd get up early on a weekend morning and go fishing. I just started to have in interest in fishing and my dad could really care less. He was just happy to be out of the office and hanging with one of his kids. We were out there one day and we say a bunch of dudes catching these huge (to me!) fish. We asked how they did it, parted ways and one of these guys gave me a small handful of canned corn. The next week I caught my first carp with a Zebco 404 rod and reel, my dad and I had a fish story and the rest is history. Still not a euro guy, but love to carp fish and want to get back to it this year !

Keep 'dem lines tight and enjoy the fight....!

While i was bass fishing i met an older couple that was "Saving" this particular pond from invasive carp.... apparently they do this all over andy ave for years. They used the treble hook and wheaties/big red combo as well. I approached them and asked how i could catch these huge (7-10 pounds) fish as well.

After a few google searches i come across the great people here at TFF and the rough fish section and learned to use a hair rig and make my own maize... Soon after that i attended a fish in at Emma long and watched Buff man Chris catch a 50 pound Buff! While we were there Chad and Scott T were super helpful and even loaned my some gear and my first headlamp.... I've been a carp a holic since. Thanks!

if I had so say one person that got me into targeting carp/buffs it would be Justin. Reading his stories here made me a carp geek. Seeing his pics of jacka$$ery and huge buffs and carp, I was like...yeah, I so wanna do that.

I hardly fish for anything else these days.

I was the tom boy between my sister and me, our parents used to take us, to the back side of the damn on Lake Pat in Cleburne TX. I dont think any of the carp were over 5 pounds. I remember my Dad hollering dont horse it in, dont force it. I was 10 12 years old then. Time passes I was fishing at Benbrook about three years ago and Thomas, (not on TFF) brought in a big carp using his dough bait. That brought back the memories of my Dad fishing on the damn. I stocked up on Big Red and Wheaties and started fishing for carp at Benbrook, and the first catches I could hear my Dad again. He is gone now and the first few made me miss him a lot. I did some research on line how to weigh the carp because I was causing damage weighing them and they were small. I thought I see those big fish I know they have to be weighing them different. Grant introduced me to the Euro method, I bought my first gear from him. Spoke to Steve a few times on line, he told me how not to take the pictures, LOL. I met Rick (JoePool) on line and he started guiding me more. After fishing with Josef at the ATC I upgraded. Still upgrading but I have a lot of the basics, and some of the expensive stuff too.

PB:
Common 17.15 lbs
Grasser 34.6 lbs
Buffalo 18.60 lbs
Koi 4.3 lbs

My uncle and I fished for CARP starting when I was about 10 years old,
Treble hooks and dough bait,,,,,,

then about 15 years ago I did an internet search on CARP FISHING, came up with CAG, joined and met Brian and Zack,,,,got my first bit of Euro gear from Wacker,,,,,since then it's been a money pit

CAG (Carp Anglers Group) has been and will always be a place where questions can be asked. friends made, and events can be enjoyed.

Back in the 1970's at the Grapevine Fishing Barge there was an old man who taught me to fish for buffalo. He also taught me how to make dough bait, and how to rig up. I still make my bait and I don't use euro techniques.

The infamous Neil Stern got me hooked a little less than two years ago. I went to a Continuing Education class he put on here in Weatherford on carp fishing. He took me to Lake Bridgeport here in Texas and I was curious about the tackle and equipment he used. I grew up bass fishing and the first time I set the hook on that 12' rod and it seemed to bend double, that was it. First fish I caught on Euro tackle was a 8 pound buff, but boy was I proud.
Fast forward a couple of years and about $2,500... (my wife Vonda hates him to this day for how much I spend). Now him and I go fish somewhere at least every other weekend.

It was guy named Pedro, he always wore a Big 'Ole Sombrero and used stale tortilla pieces for bait, on a big ole cane pole.
