Went fly fishing out there today and took me a while, but found a big group of sandbass and could have had a limit in under an hour. Was only my 5th or so time fly fishing, with the last time being in high school in Michigan 7 years ago. Spent some time focusing on technique and casting. But I have a question, where do these sand bass come from? Are they in the river year round? I dont want to give my spot away, but lets say it was within 1 mile of the highway 16 bridge (I would be more than happy to PM anyone curious where I was, but to be honest, I dont know 100% where I was so I wouldnt want to lead anyone a stray)Anyway, they were pretty good size fish. About like the magnums I catch in Grapevine. Are these fish from Granbury?? Anyway, heading back out tomorrow if anyone wants to join. I will be there at about 2 til dark. Also saw some VERY aggresive trout jumping out of the water chasing something. This was when I first arrived and everytime I tried to cast to them, I got tangled up. haha

They are there year round as are Striper. I was there yesterday afternoon and the Trout were exploding on flies on the surface.

Went out again today. Did some fly fishing up from the hwy 16 bridge. Managed to catch 4 small drum, 3 catfish and a baby small mouth bass...Is this normal for fly fishing? I was just a #8 Olive Wooly bugger, a white popper, white and red minnor fly (the one I caught all the fish on). I bypast the white bass today in hopes of catching a trout, but no luck.

I would say that yes, that's about normal. A #8 for these trout is a bit big (in my opinion), you might have better like with a #12 or smaller. I've fished a #6 all the way down to Garland Bend and caught largemouth, smallmouth, catfish, stripers, and sand bass all in the same day.
