I headed down to the Brazos behind Lake Whitney Dam this past Sunday for the first time. I heard the wading was nice and the fishing was good so I was looking forward to my first trip there. I got there late in the afternoon and the water was moving pretty good but the dam gates were closed so I couldn't figure out what was going on (for a second, I thought I was at the wrong place). After about 5 minutes of staring at the water, it finally dawned on me that they were generating.
I headed down the trail along the bluffs to the first small rock outcropping and caught a nice striper on a olive woolly bugger. In the words of Arnold, "I'll be back!"

Whitney dam is tough after release thats for sure. Glad you chose that side of the river and not wade in (swim) from riverside. After the gates open, most of the good spots become inaccessable.
Should you know there are other alternatives to wade fish if you so choose. PM on the way

I was actually at Riverside but the water was already way up so I couldn't get into too much trouble (famous last words)
