Any one else herd anything about this ?? any truth to this ??? from KDFA Amarillo and the associated press 3/21/2012
WHITNEY: Water stained; 58-62 degrees; 0.87' high. Lake Whitney is currently experiencing a lake-wide fish kill event, caused by golden algae. The fish kill is reportedly affecting every species of fish; however the vast majority are non-game species. Anglers considering fishing Lake Whitney should be aware of this fish kill, and plan their trip accordingly. Additional information will be released as needed. Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are fair on minnows. Crappie are fair on minnows. Catfish are slow.

March 2, 2012 Brazos River Basin
TPWD game wardens are investigating a probable golden alga-related fish kill at Horseshoe Bend. Sand bass, sunfish and freshwater drum have been found dead, along with stressed carp and gar. There are no dead fish at Tintop Road at the present time.
Lake Whitney: A toxic golden alga bloom is causing a fish kill. So far, threadfin shad, gizzard shad, freshwater drum, sunfish, bass, striped bass, and other nongame fish are affected. The vast majority of fish are nongame. An investigation was conducted on Wednesday and Thursday and estimated fish kill numbers are pending. The kill is most active around the McCowan Valley/Juniper Cove area but the bloom appears to be moving down-lake, as many dead threadfin shad were noted floating in open water between McCowan Valley and the dam. Water samples contained moderate golden alga concentrations at Soldiers Bluff and Steele Creek and high concentrations at McCowan Valley.
this is from TPWD site
If there is water...I will find the fish in it

I have been fishing Whitney a lot and there was a fish kill but with all the fresh water in the lake combined with the warming water, it should be about over. Good fish are still being caught in good numbers just not in the normal places. That report was from March 2 and a lot has changed since then.

Fishing and catching had been awesome up untill the 4' rise in the lake level and the lake mudded up. We had been catching stripers to 15# in 4' of water. THE GOLDEN ALGA ACCORDING TO NOT JUST THE GUIDES BUT BY TPWD IS, IT MOSTLY EFFECTED BAIT FISH AND ROUGH FISH.There has been very few game fish killed so few that since TPWD no longer does a count on dead baitfish or rough fish there will be NO dead fish count on there report due to few game fish where killed. That was published in a local paper at Whitney this week. Now for Whitney Views news the lake was up to 4' high and today only 3 corp ramps are open, Steele Creek, McCowan Vally and Walling Bend, Harbor Master Marinas ramp is open as well. The Corp is releasing a lot of water and we should be back down to normal pool in a few days, the ramps they have closed will remain closed until the parking lots dry up enough to prevent damage when they are driven on, this usually takes around 15 days after the water level drops to norm. With that being said, with all the water headed down the Brazos the Golden Alga is being sucked down stream through the gates and you can see foam on the river as far south as you can see from the dam, that with the influx of fresh water should stop the Alga from blooming and should send most of it down south. (Hope it doesn't bloom in the river) with the hot weather forecasted and the muddy lake water (stained or muddy water warms up faster) the lake temp will rise and the green alga will grow stopping any new threats of a G.A. bloom. Thank God we got the rains just in time. It's going to take a few days for the water to clear, it is muddy muddy muddy and has debris and trees floating through out the lake. If you head to Whitney use caution cutting across open water. After it settles down fishing and catching will be back to normal, awesome! Check out Aprils issue of the Lake Whitney Views and see all the Big Fish thats been caught recently. Hey as always, God Bless and hope real soon to " C Ya on the Water."
