Have y'all carried your kayaks on top of a mid sized sedan? I have a Ford Fusion for my company car and they pay for my personal use gas/miles. Rather drive free than take my truck and pay for gas. Do the foam pads work ok? What do y'all use? Any suggestions appreciated. My kayak is 11 feet long.

I drive a Kia Spectra5...I went with the Malone handirack after reading several reviews on both foam blocks and these...So far I like these...Ive only gone up to 40mph but the kayak didnt move...I also took this pic in a school parking lot...lol,taking sharp turns trying to shake it off...So far so good. I have two complaints..1:The first being the inflate racks are a little slicker than I thought...So Im gonna use that silverware drawer lining to lay on top of them before the kayak to help. 2: Make sure your roof is strong enough to support it!!..Especially since your company pays for the car. My Kia roof is permanently tattooed now...Not horrible, but noticable... that metal is thin on some cars! And I dont gorilla fist these straps. Good luck....and oh,Cabelas sells these ($109,but I have to buy the straps for the stern and bow)

I use the cheap foam blocks on my corolla. They work fine, only issue is I scratch the roof up a lot because I throw it up there first then put the blocks under it. I would recommend putting a blanket or something down first to keep your roof looking nice.

Come by the store and check out our Sherpa cartop carriers. this is a complete kit for under $100.00. ITs not a Thule or Yakima but it is a good temporary solution. They have been a very popular item to stock and would be a great solution for your issue.

I just bought a pool noodle some PVC pipe, and some PVC 90 degree elbows. I saw this rig on YouTube so I thought I'd try it out. I'll let you know how it turns out, figured for $10 it was worth the try.

I have the samw car as Wafflejaw and I take my 12 foot kayak on that with ease using the http://www.yakima.com/ roof rack system. They are a great removable roof rack system that I use for the boats and other sports that have a roof rack system is good for. They keep my kayak nice and secure even at 80mph high way speed and take less than 5 minutes to install and remove when I am ready to go fishing and they come with a optional locking system for security reasons. They do cost more than any foam noodles of blocks but they versatality they provide is really nice for other sports other than kayaking. I have had mine for about 6 years and have not had a issue with them or any malfunctions. Highly recomended them to anybody that has a car to carry their kayaks.

They do cost more than any foam noodles of blocks In most instances, I am all about creative economical solutions, but in this instance, how much is actually being saved, if the end result is damage to your vehicle? My guess is ... in the long run, a good Yakima, Thule, or other rack system is going to more than pay for itself.

This might be the weirdest, most pointless post ever. I am not against golf, since I cannot but suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering fishing

Malone Sea Wings: I absolutely swear by them.
I have also developed a little technique for loading and unloading my kayak by myself, and the Sea Wings make this really easy.
I'll post up a tutorial sometime in the future.

I load my Cuda myself, and I'm 140 lbs. I need to get a cart and some system to put this thing on my car. It's tough.
like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack

I'll post up a tutorial sometime in the future. I'd like to see how you load up! I have the malone sea wings as well.

I too have the sea wing on my jeep Cherokee. A must if you want to load a 60 lbs yak by yourself.
