First off, I do not post much. I mostly read, but something has been on my mind for two weeks and I need to let others know so they do not have the same thing happen to them. I am going to keep this as professional as possible. If it gets pulled at least I tried to warn others. I purchased a guide trip from Philip Durst owner and guide of "Just One More Guide Service" out of Rockport Texas at a charity auction back in January. We exchanged phone calls and we set up a trip in early March of this year along with a time and a meeting place. We drove 8 hours (which the guide knew) through the night from NE Texas to Rockport to meet the guide at the gas station he told us to be at 8:00 AM sharp. My two friends and I arrived at the gas station early and grabbed a cup of coffee. As we set there talking about what the day might bring, we soon realized it was almost 8:30 and still no guide. I tried his phone No answer we sat their wondering what to do when out of the corner of my eye I noticed a truck and boat drive past the station that matched the description I was told on the phone. At that time we began to follow the truck until it came to a stop in a ramp parking lot. I got out and attempted to introduce myself and never got a handshake, eye contact, nothing. I assumed I had the wrong person and proceeded to walk back to the truck when he yelled out Thats me and then jumped into his truck. He then proceeded to unload his boat and would not even acknowledge us. We grabbed our stuff and got in the boat. As we pulled away from the dock he said Lets see how fast we can catch 15 F@#$ing fish. To keep my blood pressure down I will just finish with this. From this point the day went further south and we ended up only catching 6 fish. We finished early because the guide said the fish were not biting which was a lie (because every time we would catch a fish he would insist on moving). He even took a call for a trip the next day and proceeded to tell the potential client that they were biting and he knew where to fish the next day. He did all of this from the back of the boat thinking we could not hear him. When we arrived back at the dock we were greeted with the sight of other guides and their clients with coolers full of limits. This only added salt to the wound. We then parted ways and said thanks and even tipped him for service (dont ask me why). All I have to say to Philip that I didnt that day is that The next time you donate a trip to build your reputation and client list make sure you treat them with respect and give them your best effort to catch fish. Dont treat us like we are not paying clients or use our day as a scouting trip for another day. We purchased your trip at a charity auction for more than it was worth and commented time off from work and other funds to drive across Texas for your trip. I just hope you know that your donated trip cost you more clients than you could have ever gained by this post and our conversations with other anglers. If the weather or dealing with others bothers you maybe you should change professions.

Sux bro. Your first sign should have been meeting at 8 am. Im usually limited by 8. No guide should be meeting at 8. Thanks for sharing- I just bought a bunch of overpriced charity [censored] that I'll never offload- but hearing your story makes me feel a little better. Next time come to Galveston!

Sorry to hear that you had such an awful day with a non-professional. Karma and your report will do him justice.

If it's okay for folks to brag on Guides (most of whom are great people) it should be okay to hear the other side of the coin when it happens.
Sorry about your bad experience.
A Texian is just a regular person way out on a limb

....Really sorry to hear that you had a bad experience down there. Most of the guides that I know here in the Galveston/West bay area are the utmost as far as professionals go. Up until something earlier I read from a friend and then this post I have to say that far the most part almost to a person they will treat you right as "word of mouth" is the best advert they could ever have.
....that being said.......
Just because your guide wanted to move after your party caught a few fish isn't something that is out of the norm! I was fishing West Bay yesterday with a friend and we wouldn't have wanted to stay more than five minutes in the same spot! We were fishing the birds and would catch a few trout up to 23"/27" and the darn birds would turn off. Bait was still up top but the bites were dinks. Look around and there was another bunch of birds keying on another school. Pull the stick and move, hook up, MOVE.
.....he might have been wanting to get your party on some fish...but with the tides it might not have been happening. The conversation you heard might have been offensive....
BUT REMEMBER....there is a good reason why we call it "Fishing" and not "Catching" as there is no guarantee that no matter who you are fishing with..it all depends on the fish!!

i have a concealed handgun license, if it was me, i would hide a 9 mm in the tackle box, go fishing, at end of trip, i would accidently send a couple rounds in his hull.
