Thanks for all the responses I will be sure to post how this goes for me. I am in the process of trying to find buckets and grain.

My dad would soak maze for 1 or 2 days so it would sink. He said it worked just as well as sour maze and or lord the smell. Took about 20 mins for the fish to show

get a scoop, I use one of my sisters "ugly" livestock food scoops like she uses for FFA...don't throw too much out and dont pile it up too much try to spread it a little, and i can vouch for using it when they are spawning on the rocks and with a bobber, i love that time of year

my dad soured some grain in a 5 gallon bucket with a lid for a few weeks. we then took panty hose and poured the mix into them and sunk them a few feet and tied them off to the boat houses and tore up the cats it was amazing i was only 10 at the time...

Reading this reminds me of the PURTY good batch of chum I made with Hen Scratch/Buttermilk/and a cold bud light. (warm works too) I had my wife driving the boat and I was asking her to turn it like this....... (to put her down wind when I cracked the lid on that bad boy)........ I think she loved it. She didn't agree! Hahahaha
I too have found the grain in their bellies when I clean em. The panty hose trick is pretty cool too. I would fill them before they began to sour and tie on a few feet of nylon string and hang them over the bucket. Just tie a few socks to the cleats and hang em. Worked well. I need to go round up a couple buckets tomorrow.
Good luck all
Scott

His real Name Is D*C*M* I have found wheat works best for me. It does after awhile begin to smell like a cat litter box that hasn't been changed for some time. *Mr. Fabulous* holy molly! how much are you putting out!?!?

I have used corn in the past. If you can put a piece of plexiglass over the bucket as a lid and let some sun in to the corn . Seems to speed the process and you can check on it without having to smell it

What Firewalker688 said..Scratch grain, it has milo, cracked corn and other grain like wheat or barley in it. Usually it is cheaper than milo or wheat. Lots of feed stores have a generic brand that is the cheapest of all. I have used both straight milo and scratch grain and i like the scratch grain the best. It has a distinct odor when it sours.
