Are you going by boat or bank fishing?

there are alot of catfish in Calaveras, very good lake! But if you are wanting larger fish, you may want to try Braunig or even drive to Choke Canyon! Cally is more about quantities of good eater fish and less about the bigguns.....atleast not yet!

Hay catfishingterry go to www.southtexascatfish.org. Theres some guys there that can put you right on the money. As far as size my biggest out of cally was around 16lbs . I've seen bigger to.Also this coming weekend they will be having a tournament at braunig.

Actually you'll find bigger fish in cally than braunig. That is if your targeting Blues. If your targeting channels, then what Hookem said applies. You can catch double digit weight blues on cally. I've seen a 34 pound blue come out of cally and the wife brought in an 18 pounder at our last tournament there. Other waters with bigger fish are: Choke Canyon Dunlop and possibly Canyon Lake, but it can be very hard to fish.

catfishingterry, we fish Calley about once a month or so, in the past 5 months we've CPR'd 12 double digit blues from there.

Actually, is it just me or are the channels now bigger in Calaveras? In years past we'd catch a mess of channels, but we also had to throw back many undersized fish. Last Saturday, my son, my granddaughter, and I fished Calaveras and we kept every single fish we caught. We didn't throw back any fish (not even one) because it might be undersized. In fact, we did not even measure a single fish. Every fish we caught was clearly a keeper. Most were in the 17-18 inch range. We finally stopped fishing because we weren't sure how we stood (limit-wise), and since the livewell was packed full we knew we had a chore ahead of us back at the fish cleaning station. We counted 52 back at the fish cleaning table.
