Hello there, I just got my boat finished minus the TM. I am itching to go fishing and it looks like cats might be the way to go. Up all night..... Off the next day kinda thing.
I am in Georgetown now and I wonder where to go based on how low the lakes are. Which ones are known to be good for catfish. I knew Hubbard like the back of my hand but I have yet to be in any lakes around here.
Sooooo, where would you go? Georgetown, Lake Austin, Bastrop, Buchanan, Granger?
Any input is appreciated. You really have no idea how little I know about the lakes in this area. Thanks in advance. Tight lines.
Scott

Granger is a good lake for eater sized blues and channels, never caught anything over about 12 lbs. Granger is a real shallow lake I would go out there during the day a couple of times before going out at night. Big Zee on the forum knows a lot about granger, he helped me out the first few times I fished granger. Belton is another good lake I haven't had much luck but I know a lot of people that have.

I would give Lake Austin a shot for blues. Last time we stayed there, we caught some big blues up to 45 lbs on cut carp and live perch.
Caution: Beware of wakeboarders.

Very cool, thanks for the replies. As far as catching those big cats that doesn't matter to me much. I really like catching anything that will pull. To be real honest I like baiting some lines and dozing off til the jingle bells start going bananas. When I fished Hubbard I had a couple trot lines I would bait and go troll for hybrids in the humps...... go run lines again and go home. Are there any places around here to pull in some nice stripers/hybrids?
I went to tawakoni a few times and I really liked that lake as well. Heard of a lot of people having good luck on big slabs although I mostly caught a bunch of whites trolling a Hell Pet. Like to shake the hand of whoever came up with that rig.
I think I am rambling... will hit submit now. Can you tell I am amped to get out fishing again?
Thanks again

Good point..... I LOVE hybrids! Will have to look into that. I pulled over the other day to fish in the river and the water was so low I hauled my back pack and 2 beers back to the truck. It's on the do not stop list.

The part of the river I was in was just up the road on 971 a little before Weir. It's just a bridge with the grass beaten down so I figured it has been fished a few times. I didn't even wet a line there. I fished the steps in circleville and I think the whites were turned off by the front that came through a couple days before. Not a bite one. Had fun anyway.
Buchanan is certainly looking like a place to go for me for sure. You getting some good cats on whiskers?
Bob, I had to be treated in the ER today for some crazy stuff going on with my leg, otherwise you would be on. I am so excited to get back out on the water it's crazy and I am off this weekend. I am just happy to be home now and not admitted on IV antibiotics.
Stay tuned though... I really don't know anyone around here and if I am taking the boat out I may as well take a passenger too. My boat is in the rebirth stage and whoever the kind person was who ganked my TM also borrowed my fishing seats. I'm not still mad though. Grrrrrrr
Thanks for the replies all. Means a lot to me.
Be well
Scott
