I misread the OP, If I don't know you , I would rather
you not tie up to my dock and fish.

I thought you were in trouble due to wind. If that were the
case , my previous post is correct.

Some people will take advantage, today , they tie to the dock , tomorrow they climb aboard and fish off the dock,
the next , they want to take my boat for a spin, smile

Well, in my case, I'm not good with the anchor and can hardly ever get the thing to catch into the mud. The water wasn't whitecapping and my boat was plenty big enough to take it. But I get the idea that he wasn't sure of my intentions. He didn't have to be a jerk about it - just tell me why he'd rather I not tie off. I'd say thanks anyway, have a good day, then move on.

Scout you're right and handled the situation with class. "He didn't have to be a jerk about it". Speaking as a dock owner, I have run into my share of dock owners like that over the years in my boat just fishing down a row of docks even tho I never touched their docks and I'm very careful to avoid breaking off hooks and line around their area. You're right they are just jerks. By the way try a box anchor or two, they will hold you.

I make sure my anchors have at least 4' of chain rode and if your anchor isn't holding try letting out more line. In a big boat with a heavy wind or current you might need 3 times the depth of the water in line.

Was fishing a tournament on Fork a few years back in late July,102 degrees no wind.Fishing some docks and a homeowner came out and I thought here we go.We must have looked bad because the guy told us to if we wanted to we could use his water hose and cool off and if we liked to use his boathouse room which had an AC with a television and just cool down.He walked back to his house and said use it if you need to.Very cool on his part.

In the Boat Owners defense he may have had a bad experience with people tying up to his dock. In any case that was his right.

Me personally I would have let you tie up and let your kids use the bathroom if they needed too.

My parents have a dock on Conroe and I can assure you that my Dad would have not hesitated to allow you to tie on to his dock to better enable your kids to do some fishing.

Dad brushes up his dock to hold the fish and there is one fisherman that knows that and fishes his dock all the time from his boat. One day all the grandkids were coming over later and dad asked the fisherman if he would not mind fishing somewhere else just that day because his grandkids were coming over to fish later and he wanted them to have a good shot at catching a few. The guy said sure, no problem, he totally understood and moved on.

That's what the world needs more of. Politeness and seeing things from the other guys point of view.

The next time someone asks to tie up to my dock I will probably have to tell them no. The problem is you just never know how far the invite will go. The 1st time its OK then the next thing you know they are on your dock leaving trash, pulling up your underwater lights and breaking the bulbs. I have had one pull up the boat right over the same spot I was fishing. Some think its even OK to clean there fish on your deck and leave the guts etc.. So I can see why some dock owners can be rude.

Has the right to say NO but did not have to be so rude and blunt about it. He was right there so he could have watched his property too. You seem like a nice guy and its not like you woulda stole anything or damaged something with him bein right there. Then again if the wind is high it can cause damage. As a fisherman i never pull up to tie on boat docks, but if i was a dock owner i would let people do it as long as they took care of it.

Conroe home owners are not know to be friendly to fishermen. Obviously not all are in this category.

One other thing, i know that anywhere there is a diving board, or an obvious swimming area, i avoid it. I think you should not fish there. Lose a lure and risk some kid getting it imbedded in them in the future.

There are always some of those guys. Of course their are disrespectful fisherman that might make them that way also. I'm amazed people would do what some of the dock owners here have said such as get on your dock or clean fish on it. I've also seen guys bounce jigs and such off peoples boats in a slip, that would tick me off. I always try and be courteous, if someone is on their dock I always ask if they mind if I fish there even though they can't really deny you. I had one guy on fork say ya come right over here. There have been several eight pounders caught there. I also had one dock owner on fork go get his pole and try to fish where we were fishing. He watched us pull several good ones out. We weren't even fishing the dock but about 20 yards away from it in a grass bed. He actually comes down and casts almost right over our boat and gets hung up. Then wanted us to undo his bait. I said dude come on if you want to fish that spot atleast ask before you cast over us, I'm not going to run up in the grass and scare the fish out. He got mad and broke his bait off and left.

It's really funny how much different people can be. I meet some one who is now a good fishing buddy and really nice guy while I was getting a jig unhooked from underneath his dock. Nicest guy on the lake. He even told us of a couple brush piles he has in the cove we were fishing. Then I've had some old goober holler out his back door and come running to the water trying to keep us away from his dock at night when he had his fish light on and my son and I were out catching whites during the heat of the summer. Probably need to feel sorry for folks like that, or at least his poor wife. It takes all kinds. This could have turned out to be a good teaching lesson for you with your sons, "See boys, don't be like him"
