My dad likes baitcasters...just easier for him. Its hard for him to cast any other reel, being elderly and such. I bought him a new rod, but cant seem to find a really awesome bait caster? They all look cheezy, like the Zebco's, and I really want him to fall in love and be amazed at whAt I get him. Looking for something that will make his year, price is not an problem. He deserves this, can anyone point me in the right direction? Maybe an oversees company that has top of the line stuff with alot of features etc? Help is very much appreciated!

I bought the ol' lady an Okuma spinning reel with all the bells and whistles. I don't remember the exact model, but it has been a real nice reel. Catfish connection has a good selection of them.

Get him a salt striker with a bait feeder from cabelas. Best spinning reel I've ever used

Sorry one more, the zebco 808 saltwater. The Abu Garciamatic and 808 both have power handles.

I've used the Shakespeare Synergy reels on my channel cat trips in the past. They held up well and landed thousands of channel cats and a few blues up to 20 lbs. without many problems. They make a Synergy Titanium 20 now that holds 115yds. of 20 lb test line. It should be a pretty decent spincast reel that will hold up for a while depending on the size of fish your catching and the amount of use and abuse it sees.

since he's older and probably doesn't want it to be a heavy rig, I would go w/ the Shimano Sienna RD in either the 2500 or the 4000 series. Excellent reel and handls just about any size fish you want to catch. $29.99
