Good Day Gents,

How are the upcoming storms that are predicted for Saturday-Wednesday going to affect the crappie coming up shallow. I am a pretty much bank fisherman and looking forward to the shallow bite.

I am a full time bank fisherman too. I went fishing when it were sunny last week- did great...next day when it rain...crappie were hard to find most of the day. But, some are still hanging around in the shallow...you just have to do more work for them.

They are calling for 1.9 inches in our area. These guys can't even get close to the weather, until about June when everyday will be Sunny @ 100 degrees for 100 days. But until then, I don't plan any fishing on the Weatherman's Predictions. If time allows, I go.

Widespread heavy rain coming. Also some severe storms. Latest models are indicating that 3-6 inches of rain is likely with more southeast. This storm is very strong, and I'm sure lakes will be flooded and water will be muddy soon. Flash flood watches are probably going to be issued. Get out and fish while it's still good.

Not to mention there are times when you can catch them during the rain. A couple years ago during the spring I caught 22 of the biggest crappie in the back of a cove while it was pouring down with rain. Caught the first one around noon and was home by two and cleaning fish, before that I had been sitting in the truck wondering if they were going to bite or not.

The rain we had last week was a cold rain, It dropped the water temp around 12 degrees. That is what shut them down for a couple of days. A big rain may slow them down a little at first but in a day or two it will even be better. When a rain flows the warmer water out into the main lake the crappie will follow it up the creeks in a big way. It is going to get real good after the rain.

They'll just be another rain the following week. It is Mid-March. That's what it does in March and April. Looks like the drought, has been broken, and if we are back to normal pattern, then it is going to rain Off & On for the next 2 months. That's a GOOD THING, but that is how it is.

When we get 4-6 days of 78-82 degree days, the water warms, and the fish start biting, you haft to be able to go, and stay with them. Because weather will change in the following day or two. Get while the get'n Good.

This is a hard time for the Weekend Fisherman. Weather is very unstable, and rarely works for the weekend guy.

Send some of it down to the Hill Country. Lake Travis is still 35' low.

SpawnIng fish don't like muddy water. You should stay home and not bother with fishing. I'll tell you when they are biting. wink
