How is carp after it has been frozen? I have heard plenty about shad not being very good after it has been frozen. How about Carp?

Carp and buffalo will work fine after being frozen. Add a little Dead Red Blood Spray and you'll be good to go.

So you're saying the 3 lbs of frozen shad I've been saving in my freezer all winter are going to be worthless? I've never used frozen shad but I just assumed it would be close to the same as using it fresh. I put them all in a plastic bag, covered them with water and put them in the freezer to break out this spring when the fish start coming in good and shallow. I hate wasting things, I sure hope that I don't end up having to throw all this shad away.

Big mistake covering them in water to freeze, when they thaw out they will be really mush and hard to stay on a hook when casting.
I've caught some nice fish on frozen shad, but I always dry mine off and vaccuum seal. The bigger the better to.
It's getting to be the time of year anyway where fresh shad are to easy to catch,so you shouldn't have to use frozen.

Well its not a matter of 'have to'. I have a cast net, I just don't like waste especially when it comes to bait fish. However since I have more questions im gonna start a new topic, I've hijacked this thread enough. ^^; sorry to the O.P.

Fresh shad will likely work better than frozen/thawed shad though. Shad should be pretty easy to catch from the bank very soon. To me, locating and catcing fresh bait every day is just part of the complete fishing experience.

Chum with them, feed the fish with them, feed the seagulls/ducks with them.No waste! Shad is best within two hours of being dead.Best to keep them alive till you want to use them for cut bait.If keeping alive is not a option make sure they are dry, and ice them down.

I didn't ask about the carp, the O.P. did. I think I may have hit the reply button on the wrong post, that was directed to the OP saying something about frozen shad not working very well. Sorry about the confusion.

No problem. If you ever need fresh shad sometime let me know. I often times have it left over from my previous trip.

That would be fantastic! Thanks so much Bobby, you're the man! I've been wanting to book a guide trip (when i can afford it) for the longest, and this is just one more reason that when I have the funds you're the one I'm calling. =)

Take the old shad and mess with the sandie fisherman. When the boat shows are chasing the birds, throw all of your frozen shad in the water, watch the birds come, and watch the boat show come. JK, maybe.
