Big, wouldn't even try to guess the weight. I have been lucky to catch many double digit fish. The largest was in 87 on lake fork, with out doubt. Had her up to the boat 2 times . Had some of the famed 14-40 line lol ! Was tired of getting line broke or sawed off. She Straightened out a 6/0 hook.

I don't know, because I lost it. Agreed, IMO the only way you can even claim to have lost a big one is you actually saw it next to the boat or it jumped. Anytime I hear someone say i never saw it, I start doubting. I've caught all kinds of species over the years and have caught at least 5+ big flatheads that make the initial run like a bass. Exactly, if you don't see it you have no idea if it was a bass or not. I've boated just about everything that swims one time or another fishing for bass, sometimes giant flatheads, gar, buffalo and choupique pull like bass.

fork- mid 90's- jig fish right at dark, I have no idea.... Im 265 and my friends tease me about my "popeye" forearms... this fish was stronger than me. broke 25# big game after a short strong fight. flipped into a tree like i've done a million times and all of the sudden fish of a lifetime on ... then gone.

this did not happen to me i was just out fun fishing where there was one other boat in a small pocket so as i trolled closer to them they get a fish on boat what looked to be a keeper but it was close, guy puts on the measuring stick on front deck and fish starts flopping and goes right over the side. i then assumed they were in the small tournament that i knew was going on so i left that cove. later i run into them at ramp and ask how they did, after talking for awhile we get to the lost fish and he tells me they got second by 1 lb even and only weighed 4 fish. ouch!

Fayette County this year in late Jan. I had been murdering the fish all day from before sunup, I had prolly caught 10 fish (typical Fayette bass 3 lbs) late in the evening without re-tieing (bad part is I knew I should I was just lazy),plus pulled a snag loose once with 17lb. p-line fluro, at just bout dark i pitch to grass line, wham! this fish pulled harder than any fish I have ever felt (my pb is only 6) fish was ripping drag, and then nothing,,,, and like said earlier it jumped completely out of water bout 15 ft from me trying to spit my jig,,, big fish no doubt...

I lost two at Falcon and one at Amistad that I could not turn so ??? I lost one at Ivie 10 min after I caught the bottom fish in my sig that looked like its twin. Both were on a topwater and jumped out of the water a few times so I had a good reference.

A 11-12+ pounder in a Round Rock, TX Private Pond (Cattle Stock Tank) that broke 20lb line and took off with my favorite (At the time) Zara Spook. 3mins. later, she jumped several times, trying to throw that Spook..(1996) That tank has a big subdivision around it now, with hardly any fish....

saw one come up and eat my jig on fork a couple years ago with Oldfield that we think was in the mid teens. She definitely had the frame to be that big. She came up behind the boat again trying to throw the jig shortly after the line broke.

I lost a giant at Oak Creek last year, pulled like nothing I've caught before. I'm a big dude and I got whipped. Lost another DD a few years ago at fork during the summer, I've never seen a shadow that big before. Larry... I was told it was a catfish for sure.

One on hubbard creek jumped and spit it ten laid on top for about 3 seconds letting me look 10 plus. Then I was working a buck bass on ivie on a deep bed. The female showed up I guess and ate me up. Could not turn and busted me off. I would just liked to have seen her, have never been beat on like that fish did, never. Had a chance.

No idea unfortunately...last April on The Fork, near Mustang, it bull-dogged me straight back to the boat, never stood a chance... ...I'll bump this thread with a new tale around the 1st/2nd of April...

Deep cranking on Joe Pool last year I caught one that I had figured for 7 lbs at the boat. Dawdled around, she gave a big head shake, and broke off.

I have lost WAY more big fish than I like to remember. I have also been fortunate enough to catch a few DD's and a bunch of 9-9.9's. There have been several lost on deep cranks or a FB Jig that I never saw, but there are 3 that I saw that definitely stand out in my mind.
#1 Crown Colony Golf Course Pond April 2002. I was 18 and had just gotten back into bass fishing. I had just spooled up with 17lb Berkly Vanish and had a weightless centipied (on clearance at Walmart) and I wanted to see what kind of action it had. I dropped it in the water just past the water heisens and a small buck came up and ate it. I set the hook and pulled it out of its mouth. I dropped it right back in with the same results 2 more times. 4th time I dropped it in I saw the "same fish" eat it again. I clicked the thumb bar and gave it some line and BAM! When it made a surge I thought "damn this little dink is tough". I went to cane pole hoist it onto the bank and managed to get her head out of the water before the line broke. This fish was all of 10, possibly bigger. Just a giant bass!
#2 Lake Sam Rayburn July 2007 fishing a Thursday evening tournament. HOT THICK CLOUDY AND MUGGY and me and Wes were chunkin Spro Fogs in THICK Pepper Grass. There was a little ditch making a somewhat open lane about 10" wide and 20' long that was just screaming big fish. I was spooled up with 65lb Power Pro and had a 7'8" Kistler Mg. The frog popped 2 times and was just slurped under. I reeled down until I felt her swimming and slammed the hook to her! I held the rod up to keep her from getting buried up and her head came up. She was so damn big she couldn't jump, she just kind of wallowed on top!!! Her head looked like a milk jug! She raced towards the bottom and I never gave her any slack, no need with that tackle right??? Wrong! When the line broke it jarred my hands so hard that they went numb! Who knows how big that fish was but all the DD's that I have caught were nothing beside that beast! We still managed to win the tourny even though Wes lost one over 10 and another 6-7lber. 3 fish for 16.8lbs! If we'd weighed in what we had on, we could have possibly had 30+lbs with 3 fish! They would've never let us fish another one lol.
#3 Last summer Kurth Lake showing the lake to a buddy for the first time. Brian had boated a couple of nice fish 6-7lbs and I had caught a couple of 3's and 4's also. We trolled into a pocket and I saw a "big carp" on top of a grass mat. At second glance I see the lateral line! Fellas when I say this was a BIG fish that is the understatement of a lifetime! I threw my swim bait in front of her and when it hit the water she bolted. I started reeling in pretty fast trying to see where she went so I could make another cast. About 15' from the boat, I look down and see a mouth as big as a stearing wheel inhale my swim bait! I didn't really set the hook, more just pulled the line tight, but that was too much. The .22 shot rang out when she busted 20lb Seaguar like no body's business! That to date is the biggest bass I have ever seen! It didn't belong in Texas, it looked like one of those monster California fish! I don't know what she would have weighed. It was enough for me to sit down on the front of the boat for 15 min not saying a word. I gained a ton of respect for my buddy Brian because he never said anything except, "that was the biggest fish I've ever seen".
Those are my heart breaks...
