on my next trip. My outboard is stuck in position. I can't turn left or right. I have plenty of grease and hit all the joints with plenty of WD40 thinking it may help. Joints Plenty of grease Any ideas? I know my steering is fine. I can't turn it manually.

Disconnect the steering cable from the motor. If the motor truns by hand it is the cable that needs lube. Probably is.

I did this and it was still stuck. I am sorry I didn't mention it.

Look at the actual pivitot point on the motor. Maybe a cracked seal? Hit anything that could've bent the linkage? (unlikely)

Actually in your first pic, the lighter colored thing looks like a cracked seal or washer to me, but it may not be.

I believe one of your roller bearng pins has come loose and caused the pivot shaft to sieze, most likely the area to check... good luck.
(like a u-joint bearing cap, the little bearing pins)
could also be the cross member shaft bearing and/or pins

It's probably a frozen steering cable. I had to replace mine a couple of years ago. As was mentioned earlier, disconnect the cable from the motor and you can tell.

I bet your tube is seized....when you grease does it seep out the top? If you don't see alot of grease seeping from the top, it is probably dry in the middle to upper shaft....remove the tube(not easy) and clean with Chem-tool...if corrosion exist, buff with sand paper re-assemble and grease. If it doesn't have a zert at the top I would drill and tap one....keep us posted.

You will likely have to beat it out, but be careful not to mushroom the end. I used a combo of PB Blaster, hammer, and mild heat. I think there may be some pictures of my cable in my Skeeter build thread. The link is in my signature. Also, make an oversize shotgun cleaner and clean the tube until you can run a rag through it and it comes out clean.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

it looks like the top steering linkage rod is binding with the arm on the motor .

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have disconnected the steering cable by unscrewing it and it moves. When it is screwed tight again, it is locked. I will take a look to see where grease it seeping and see if it fails to come from the top. I will also look into the other suggestions, including the bearing. I'll post back tomorrow and let everyone know if something works. I may actually PM those who asked to take a look if I can't get in moving tomorrow. This is not the time of the year for equipment failure! Thanks again.
