The big question is....has anyone caught a 30" + channel?

I've gotten 2 this year on that lake that keeps whoopin you

I went fishing for the first time since last August and caught the biggest channel cat I have ever seen. Our 36 inch diameter met could barely get it in. We didn't have a scale with us but I have to say it was about 13-15 pounds. Caught it on a cut perch head on a jug line at Hubbard Creek Lake.

ive caught some really big channels at my lake by accident with road runners, everyone there fishes for crappie and bass. Three weeks ago I decided to try my first jug lines out with some waterdogs and I got a BIG channel, in the 34 inch range. I should have weighed it but I was more interested in eating it. 6 people ate comfortably that night and there were leftovers.

If people understood what was important in life, there would be a shortage of fishing poles.

Bump...in relation to Fish Hauler's big but not big enough for catch and release record channel catfish. I think I am going to send some emails to see what it take to get that lowered to 25".

With the risk of an AlbertKing scolding...what is a trophy channel in your opinion...and what would make a channel cat worthy of release. None of us would think twice about filleting a 8# blue...should an 8# channel get CPR treatment?

I don't think the length needs to be lowered. It just makes the big fish award that much sweeter.

In my pond I have about ten channel cats that are 15-22 lbs. I'm guessing a few of them have to be over 36".

Did you get it recorded for the record? Got a pic would love to see it! The current record was almost 29" at 10.80.

Heck, I did not realize this was an old thread but would still love to see pic!

Got to set the bar high enough so it is a special accomplishment. Too low and everyone gets a ribbon.
30 inches is perfect.

We catch them at the 10lb mark semi regularly starting in April at our fish cleaning station. I'm gonna keep track of weights n' lengths a little closer this summer.

You could probably ask Weldon Kirk, he has fished Fayette for a while and the AVERAGE channel cat now is 7-8 pounds. I'm sure he could tell how many 30" fish he has handled.
