I have used for years and still use Shakespeare Ugly Stik rods. Reason is they're tuff and dependable. I've also always used mono and in the past few years have gone to fluorocarbon as well. I'm seriously looking at using braid on a couple of my reels, but not sure about some things related to it.

During a recent visit to BPS (aka Disneyworld for guys) I had opportunity to talk to the G-Loomis and the Berkley reps about rods. One told me that I needed to use specific rods made for braid or the guides would be eaten up like a hack saw. The other rep told me it wasn't really an issue nowadays like it was a few years back.

I'm leaning toward the Power Pro brand of braid. Any thoughts or suggestions is appreciated!

alot of the rods run ceramic inserts when they used to be plastic and I believe ceramic will hold up.....or just run rods with stainless eyes and no inserts like ProAngler.......

If yours rod have ceramic guides you never have problems using braid, the braid can't distroy ceramic guides.

Ugly Stick:
Howald Process Double-Built blanks and Ugly Stik Clear Tip design for guaranteed strength and sensitivity.
Durable and lightweight Ugly Tuff EVA grips. Spinning models have an EVA insert on top of reel seat for added comfort.
Graphite twist-lock reel seats are standard on most models.
Black stainless steel guides with aluminum oxide inserts.
Ferruless design on two-piece models for the strength and feel of a one-piece rod.
Over 40 actions to choose from for all freshwater fishing applications.
Exclusive Ugly Back 70-day/7-year warranty.

Aluminum Oxide...I dunno....I believe alot of the catfish guys run braid on Ugly Sticks..... hmmm
