Took my daughter out to Lampasas River about a mile west of kempner under the bridgeon HWY 190 West today....The water is clear and level is way up after all the rain. We started off cast netting for shad and ended up with quite a bit plus two 5lbs carp (Da*# dorsal spines shredded my net and got a few puntures in the hand trying to get them out lol)... Then we waded about 100yds up stream to a sand bank with a few fallen trees on the opppsite bank and water depth drops to about 6-8ft.....end of the day catch 3 LMB, 4 Carp, ton of Channel cats (none even close to keepers) and a few panfish all released for another day to catch.

Good to hear the river level is up, hopefully it will keep stillhouse lake level's on the rise until it reaches its normal pool level.

When I was a young boy, I used to go with my Grandfather, Grandmother and two uncles to the Lampassas river. My Grandparents were old world honest but we used to sneak onto a piece of property and spend the night. Back then, we used to be so poor that this kind of unlawful move helped to put food on the table. We slept on canvas/wood fold up cots around a fire under the stars. We seined for bait during the day, fished and swam. We baited the trotlines and went out at night to re-bait them. These trips are absolutely one of my best memories.

Wow Rayzor. What nice memories of your grandfolks.
I remember trips like that with my parents out on the colorado river in Bend TX. Lemon's Camp, Goreman Falls, (now Colorado Bend State Park) Sulpher Springs, and Barefoot's Camp. Swimming, Catfishing, catching crappies, & whites. We'd clean the fish and cook them on an open fire. The rest went home to the freezer. Those were the days.
Shut up and fish!
