On 3/12 I had Cherie Oltmann, daughter Mackenzie, and son Garrett out for a spring break outing on Lake Somerville. Garrett had been fishing with me before, but first time for mom and sis. First place we tried was in the mouth of Birch creek, with a steady flow of water, shad jumping everywhere and not a fish to be caught.

Then we headed to some deeper water where we found fish. They ended the day with 45 nice cats for the trip home.

All fish caught on CJ's Crawdad punch bait, under cork, in 10 foot water.

Today, Tuesday, I had John Burnett, principal of Bremond, TX schools, his dad Jim, and son Ryan for a return trip to Gibbons Creek. They have fish the last four years with me during spring break. Today we fished Gibbons Creek. The gates are open, letting water out of the lake for the first time in over a year, fresh water coming into the lake.

Grandpa Jim caught the most fish, with dad catching the larges at 4# blue cat. 2-3 nice blues were lost at the dip net due to shallow bites.

They ended the day with 75 cats. All caught on CJ's Shad punch bait, under corks, in 5 foot water.

Great catches Weldon...headed out this Sunday with the kids. Glad the lake is up now and I can get the deck boat back in the water. Really missed the winter fishing (which is what I like the best). Hope to see you on the lake. Good fishing and be safe
