I can't figure out what the alarm means on my 1999 basscat A-18. It is a solid alarm that is ear piercing. My oil level is fine, the engine is cooling fine, don't know what it is! Please help!!! The motor is an oil injected 2 cycle mercury 115.

I figured it might have something to do with the oil, gonna fill it up to the top tomorrow and see how that works. It's at about 40% full right now.

might also check the flow of the oil up to the container in the cowling. A clog could cause your problem.

As weekender said check the reserve in oil in the motor. If it is not completly full it can cause the alarm to go off. If it's not full with the motor running slowly open the lid to the reserve and see if it will allow the reserve to start recieving oil as soon as it gets to the top replace the lid. Sometimes they get air built up in them. Hopefully this will help

A long beep or alarm ,overheat,is different than an beep beep beep which usually means oil tank.

A constant alarm means somthing critical and not to run your motor. It could be one of several things (overheat, over rev, low oil, oil injection system fail). Believe me I just had a conversation with Mercury over this.

Does it do it when the key is on and the engine NOT running? If so on the bottom of the oil resivior there are 2 blue wires coming out unplug them if the alarm quits you need a oil tank(assuming th tank is full) the magnet comes disconnected from the float and causes the alarm to false alarm and you must replace the tank

Two things I would check:

1. The oil reservoir inside the motor

2. Make sure your pisser is pissin.

I've had problems with both of those on my 2001 Nitro, and both gave me that same constant beep. I was able to differentiate between the two when I noticed it would kick in in rough water. That meant it was the oil reservoir.

Make sure lid is screwed on tightly. I have an external fill on the rear of my triton, if that cap does not click twice when I tighten it, the alarm will sound!

Had the exact same problem on my motor-oil in both wells (engine reserve and main oil well) were completely full so I couldn't figure out why the alarm. Water pump working just great. Ran the motor a little longer thinking it would fix itself.....and that was stupid. Oil wasn't getting to engine-burned up a couple of pistons in no time and ended up with a complete re-build, $5K later. Oil pump was bad but that's not something you can see by just checking the oil levels.

Do what Martin said this motor has a motor mounted oil tank only. Sensor going out in the bottom of the tank is normal but you have to replace the complete oil tank.
