I mounterd mine on the transom. The way my boat is designed, the big motor interferes with my left side, side imaging. Basically I only have right side imaging. I dont know if the stock transducer can be mounted thru hull. I will eventually change mine out to a thru hull. That side imaging is going to make you MAD!!!! Youre going to find so many fish, but it wont make um bite. Send me a PM if you need help installing or have any other questions. I live close by you.

How are you guys going to do thru hull with side imaging.... I thought it had to have a clear 180 degrees to both sides in the water. Or are you talking about drilling a hole and installing a real thru the hull transducer. Just asking because I really don't know.

I mounted my 798 si transducer on the transom last year with no real issues. The key is to get it low enough for a clear shot of water and offset from the center enough to avoid motor interference.
I would seek advice from Josh (jsplinter) or Doug Vahrenberg via this forum, the general equipment forum, or PM. They are both HB gurus and can help you with transducer placement questions.

SI transducers cannot be mounted thru hull. I bought a transom saver from scap and mounted it on the transom. I like it because it is spring loaded and kicks up if I hit something and bounces back down afterwards.
I dont remeber if your boat had a jackplate, but if it did I would mount it to that. Take some pics of your transom and post them in the general equipment section.
Also if you join the yahoo SI group there is a bunch of photos showing where and how to mount on different boats.

My 898 transducer is mounted 8 inches to the right of motor and flush with the bottom of the hull. Works great left and right.

Mounted on Transom hangs about 1/8 to 1/4 below bottom of boat works just fine

the side you mount it on makes a big difference also, because depending on the direction your prop turns, you will have more turbulence on one side than the other. If your prop turns clockwise, you may want to try the port side first. Its alot of trial and error. I have mine as low as it can go, and I still get interference unless I trim the motor up just a bit, then its very clear. there is no fit all answer to the location, just likely areas to try.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

I'll be receiving my Humminbird Thursday. You guys that have one, where is your transducer mounted? Thru Hull or on the transom? Both Mike. Mount the big transducer on the transom. There should be instructions as to how and where. Get a Y cable from Hunmminbird and mount a shoot thru hull transducer in the hull. Use Epoxy that comes with it to mount it. Follow instructions. The YCable is like a splitter. The Shoot thru hull will pick up the bottom in 2D while you are on plane. The big Transducer will not. PM Doug Vahrenberg or Wayne P. on here. Either will probably have you take pictures of your transom and offer suggestions as to where to mount it on your transom and where you should mount the shoot thru hull. I had David at Spankys do mine the first time. I think he charged me like $150-200 to do it all. My best advice to you is to buy a plexiglass mounting plate at Bass Pro for the transom. That way if you need to move it a little you still only drill 2 holes in the hull of your boat to mount the plexiglass plate. Call me if you want. I'll pm you my number.

another excellent source for info bassboatcentral's humminbird forum i mounted my si 'ducer right of center on transom. bottom surface is about 1/8-3/16 of an inch below hull. works very well except on plane (can get spotty) . i personally am not so interested in si function while planed out.
